Streetlights flicker to life
in the French quarter
A roll of nickels and the humidity
are close at hand
nests of wasp eggs reside
in the crests of waves that
the failing wallpaper supplies
Rats chew my discarded toenails
and leave trails I do not care to follow beyond
the scurry of their feet
Postcards of places left behind
and people who've yellowed with age
hang lazily from the wall
the transistor radio with the dangling antenna
fizzles the appropriate rusted horns
as I lie upon this filthy mattress
that covers a hole in the floorboards
of this ancient Victorian wonder
In the doorway
She leans, smiling
her crisp wandering lust
black silk
framing her featurettes
the moon stands behind her
towering over this broken life
I offer her the patch of floor beside me,
a swig from my relief
We spend the night
planning our escape
from dreams we no longer need

Drexler welcome to Piptalk!!! I feel honored to welcome somebody of your caliber into our online community. You have displayed here a magnificent piece of work.. you know, it kind of reminded me of that movie Fight Club, because we have a dilapidated victorian house and a black-silk clad woman in the picture whom i fail to see as anyone else but Marla Singer herself. If you've seen the movie, you know what im talking about. If not, I highly recommend it, because it seems right up your alley. ;-)

I have sent you nothing but angels, and I have placed nothing but miracles before you.

Yes,  ~WELCOME~

There are too many lines in this poem to quote back those which I like more than others. But, the last two? Those have special meaning to me.

Thank you for sharing your talent with us. Enjoyed a great deal.

Warm Regards,
Pat

Drexler, this is uncommonly wistful
and I appreciate the reading of it
very well...having only visited the FQ
for a brief period of time, it is a place
that I have promised myself to return to,
and to walk again.

Thank you, and Welcome to Passions!

Add some Tom Waites music and lay a book of Bukowski aside the soiled matt. Great images of a lower order. Welcome

ah...the places they don't show--

I've been there m'friend.

ain't going back.

Welcome to Passions.

I truly enjoyed the different perspective--though it left me a bit unsettled. Ghosts...yanno?

Good morning to you Drex!
I haven't read your work in such a long time. (not since last spring at AC) You still have such a keen edge to your writings; always a different view of life than my own. But I do enjoy the contrasts, the change of perspective.

You paint the dark scene quite beautifully--one can see these two in the Quarter on any given day--applause!!

WELCOME  TO  PASSIONS  IN  POETRY
You are a very fine poet and I know you
will like it here amongst this family of
friends. I look forward to reading more
of your work.
BTW, I love the way you described the French Quarters.
I haven't been there many times, but this was part of it that I didn't see. You know
they kind of spruce up the parts they show
to tourists.
