Walking alongside an old iron horse of many days ago.
Wondering of all the struggles, blood shed, lives lost to lay the steel.
Tens of thousands, sweating, hurting, aching, dying for one cause.
To create a railroad for lovers to ride and romance on.

Funny joke to some, but not to him.Railroaders all from way back.
Almost born on a train he was told, early labor, premature, purple.
Remember vividly the sounds of trains coming into the freight yard.
The squeel of brakes, the clash of cars coupling, the toot of a whistle.

An old worn lantern, lens scarred from years of use.Battery long
since gone, lying still, played with my me as a child, a youth.
Fuzee flares, cannot forget the smell, the glowing hot red flames.
Beware, danger ahead what they told in their own silent shouting way.

Black lumps of coal lying along track beds, spillage from full cars.
Funny smell, so very hard, like a rock, not like charcoal at all.
Remember the tunnels under the tracks, the cars whizzing through.
Smell of creosote ties seeping in, sticky tar beneath our feet.

Steam engines coming into the yard, belching white steam so high.
Loud hisses, chugs and clinks.Things a boy keeps alive always.
Porters pulling baggage wagons with wooden wheels.Dressed
so dapper in black.
Station house so very grand, chandeliers lighting the room.

Remembering the sound of the switch engine moving cars
as I lay awake. The rumbling hum of huge diesels purring.
The occasional horn acknowledging a brakeman’s signal.
The lights reflecting through trees, frightening to a child.

All things of distant past, all things remembered well.
Some never to be forgotten and cherished. Some slowly
fading into the microcosm of a mind growing old.
Sad tears shed now when seen, for only the memories
are left to see.

(Oh how I truly love trains, they are part of me and my creativity)

..man.. that must have been lots of work to make all those darn tracks. We can thank those people for where we are today.

I have sent you nothing but angels, and I have placed nothing but miracles before you.

(big hugggsssssss) Though I remember so many wonderful romantic "two-rails diverging as one" train love poems you wrote in the earliest days I've rad you on Mutington's Meadow and here, I can't remember this one and am so happy you re-posted this! (smiles) This is marvelous, sweet friend, I guess music would be my main muse of inspiration other than Joanna, this is wonderful, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Barry, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

A rich and wonderful life to course those tracks, still so vivid in the heart of a boy and the soul of a wonderful man. TD
