Silent Love

Sometimes I think back on the day
When loving thoughts were hard to say
For in the innocence of youth
The lips retain a fragile truth

Sweet phrases lingering all the while
Upon the fringes of a smile
Too timid then the whispering word
For fear of even being heard

The trembling lips that could not speak
The heart so full, the voice so weak
Left love behind to wonder why
So great a thought was left to die

The passing seasons hold regret
For words I meant to say, and yet
So fluently in midnight’s bed
They flow through dreams, though still unsaid

So simple now to plainly pose
The sentiments left unexposed
And now pour out from laden pen
Pure love that couldn’t be written then

Perhaps some day you’ll read this verse
And realize the phantom curse
That shrouded thoughts, in youth’s eclipse,
And left your love on trembling lips

I can't ever imagine you not being able to express your love to anyone. All one has to do is look into those eyes filled with such expression or feel one of those famouse hugs. Absolutely beautiful dear friend

To look back and wish to have said the things you couldn't say...we've all been there, Liz, but I've never seen it expressed so well. You continue to amaze...:Phatsoff:

'continues to amaze' is right. you're amazing in and of yourself. so few write things that i can associate with... even fewer write things that i have no choice but to associate with. you've achieved the latter here, something i read in silent admiration.

Oh Liz, I know this well.  And you express it so softly, so beautifully.  It's a keeper~

Take care,

This is truly a lovely poem, Liz...
It touches us all because we all have words which have been left unsaid...
and we have all been through the awkwardness of youth...

Dear Liz, yet again amazing stuff, I feel you speak your truths with your words and might still find it hard to say what you feel in person, I know this feeling, the truth seems to hide well on paper, where we need not show physical emotions and feel threatened.
Your gift is forever with you, please keep sharing.

Sincerely
Rick

There may be words in all our live left unsaid...but the true saddness lies in that lesson not being learned...and feelings still left unexpressed...thought provoking words Elizabeth..

...believe what your heart feels...

Sy, One such word from you is a thousand to my heart
Thank you

Hoot, It's so great to see you posting again. I enjoyed reading your very moving poem. Thanks for your kind words
Love you

Balladeer, I was too timid until poetry came along. It opens the heart. Thank you, dear poet

Christopher,
You brought a smile with the second part of your remark!. You, on the other hand, make the reader a part of your verse, not by association, but by the pure beauty of your imagery. Your words leave a lasting impression. THank you

Melissa, This is why I think love is so much better the second time around!. Thank you, sweet poetess

garysgirl, I thank you for reading my poems, it warms my heart

Vicky, Thank you for sharing your feelings . It means a lot

Lyra, Yes, it's true. But the hardest, i think is reconciliation with a parent. Then later you regret not having expressed your feelings. This never happened to me, but to a relative. But I always felt I lost a love in my youth for not having expressed my feelings, and he alike. Thank you

Tammy, Just you reading is enough. Thank you so much for your comment

Rick, I believe you are right, A piece of paper is so much less threatening. I never thought of it that way. I feel you've hit upon another poem. Why don't you write it!
A wonderful theme

scorpio, The only word I can think of is regret. Life teaches many lessons, after the fact. Thank you

Noah, Thank you for your loving words. Thanks for always being there

Liz
