I carry Your Heart

Fourteen years ago today
you left us
yet your pain and your passion
live on in me
expressed through my words
I miss you

in the mirror, I see your reflection
looking back at me, and I know
from where my expression comes...
and my color, my eyes and my smile

you are my Dad
I carry your genes
your soul, your talents, your looks

its been a long time
but you are still here
and I carry your heart in mine

Very good poem. I just lost my Great Aunt Brownie today. So I know how this feels.

My father passed away in 1988 as well, Lyra.  I am so pleased to have seen this today, from you.  I know the feelings so well.  This month I'm coming up on the 10th anniversary of my mother's passing, which day is the day we celebrate my mother-in-law's 94th birthday.  Sweet, sour, up, down, black, white, ying, yang....

the pull of life.

Thank you for this.

I can see him in you and you in him.  It will always be that way, for love is in your poem.

Lyra, I know that reflection well.  My father died in '81 and my mother in 1990.  This is such a nice tribute to your dad.  *hugs* my friend.

Thanks so much, Martie...
Everyone says that I look just like him,  and he was also a poet and an artist....
He made his living as a pharmacist... but I think that poetry and art were his real jobs, as well as being a wonderful daddy.

Im sorry that your dad passed away... But death is just another part of the journey.

I wish to become a great poet some day, but it will only come in time. Til then, I shall write my poems, and wait.

It may be part of the journey... but no one wants to get to that part too soon...
As for my Dad...  He was only supposed to live to be in his mid-fifties and he made it all the way to 77... and I know he had a very good life

Yes dear Lyra,  tributes to those we love,
those we cherish, miss and always remember.

life be for?

Beautiful words Madame ChipperMunch....

Good to see ya back at it...

Hello Lyra

Your heartfelt sentiments of love for your father were absolutely beautiful.  I know how proud he would be of you and I feel sure you share many special qualities with your father.  These are such treasured memories to which I can relate so very well.

Take care

Thanks so much, Marti...
My Dad and I were very close... everyone always said that I looked like a female version of him...
He was the one who lit the poetic spark within me...
He loved poetry,  he read it, he wrote it and he taught me to write it.

Chippymunky,
I tried to reply to your poem over at Gary's  Mom and Dad's house last night when I was reading my e-mail. My computer was down for a couple of days. I've been having a lot of trouble with it lately, so one of my computer-whiz friends wiped it out and put another program on it for me.
Anyway, I just saw that it didn't go through. I did something wrong, I guess.
I was so glad to see that you had posted a poem, sweet Lyra. I hope you're feeling better. I sure did miss you while you were gone.
I really like your poem and the thoughts behind it. Aren't memories a good thing to have?
