Aroma/ Odor-Their Difference

for weeks, now,
I’ve taken to watching Emeril
ya know,
Legasse from “Emeril Live”
with his delectable,
culinary fantasies for the tongue

delightful, garlic enriched
feasts
have donned my table
and dominated
the airs of my ways

at the end of the day
I step across the threshold
into the aroma
of a recent repast

a lovely invitation
to a packaged repeat
waiting in iceboxed reflection

a wonderful greeting
after a hard day’s work

yet
this one day
upon reaching my entry

a pungent odor,
of another sort, hit me
smack in the nasal cavities

a recollection of the morning,
its hastened preparations
and rapid departure,
told the tale

the reason
for the wrinkling of my nose,
the putrid formation
of my lips in a sneer,

the horrid distaste
that permeated my nasal passages
and coated my tongue
with rancor,

rancor at myself
for my absent-minded rushing
of the morning,

“I forgot to sift the litter-box!”

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.
