The Thaw of Discontent

Buried 'neath the frozen tundra,
Lies a heart that's weak and cold;
Sheltered in it's frigid wasteland,
Locked within an icy mold.

Long-abandoned, frail and weary,
Hidden there, beneath the snow;
Crouched within it's winter cover,
Silently, it waits below.

Pitiful in it's dementia,
Left to perish at it's will;
Time has passed, and still it lingers,
Fending off the piercing chill.

Crystals form around it's casement,
Threatening to invade the core;
Yet, the heat of bitter mem'ries,
Staves the final outcome more.

Timidly, it's life-force flickers,
Beating back the frosty grave;
Grinding out an S.O.S.
That echoes through it's frozen cave.

Lost in limbo, there it hovers,
Not alive and yet, not dead;
Trod upon by those it trusted,
High above it's tomb of dread.

Still it waits with patient longing,
For the thaw of discontent;
Ever pining, wishing, hoping,
That it's anguish will relent.

Well, lookie who I found..me gator girl!! \
my goodness Kit-girlie...me thinks ya been in Canada too long...we need to meet at the beach

Ya know...if one looks at this melancholy masterpiece..they can find the warm just below the icy blue....the hope hidden in the rhymes...
Winter has set in...but springs around the corner.
As always you work your theme and metaphors to poetic perfection in your gift of cadence.
Always a treat to find your name here groovy girl.
Now grab your sunblock and lets go find some burn. ( Im a moth...what do ya expect)

No one has ever shown me how to see the world the way I see it now ...
and I never saw blue like that before.

You are such an awesome writer! I truly mean it! You really had me going there for awhile with this one! I was taking it literally at first, then realized you were speaking metaphorically--and brilliantly, may I add!

I can't help but smile when I see your name next to a poem... for I know I have a treat waiting... packaged in perfect rhyme and rhythm and decorated with the finest of metaphors... and always, just what I want. *S*

This reads so perfectly it gave me chills. *S*

This is an amazing poem. I thought, she doesn't know me, how could she capture me so well?  True, I feel that way with many poems, but, this one hits home, like no other! I love it!
I believe this might be one of the first poems of yours I've read, and like the others here, must say, what a treat. Such talent, thank you for sharing it with us.

With warm regards,
Pat

Boy, you beautiful poet people sure know how to make someone's day. It's been so long since my last post, I'd almost forgotten how wonderful the feeling is to hear such positive feedback and encouragement.  My life has been far too busy on this end, with work and family distractions, but it sure felt good to make this post. Thank you everyone, for brightening up my day.

Professor Gloom   I'm glad you enjoyed Professor Gloom, thanks for letting me know you were able to relate to this piece, much appreciated.

Sunshine:  LOL … I would love to "serve up some more" Karilea … and you know I'm trying, trying, trying. Thanks for helping me with the DM admin sunshiney friend … it seems to have helped to let this muse loose for a bit. Hugs …

Earth Angel:  Thank you so much for such an encouraging comment Earth Angel. That was lovely to hear … many thanks to you.

Southern:  And I can't help but smile when I see your name on a comment Southern … it's always a delight to hear your thoughts, and I truly appreciate it. Thank you.

MARK V SHELDON:  Awww, thank you Mark!  I have been here in the background helping with moderation and admin duties, but I'm afraid I've been far too absent from writing poetry. I'm hoping it won't be quite so long until the next post. Thank you for the kind words.

Nan:  Thank you for understanding Nan, and for helping to give me a little time from the pressures as well. Funny how the muse comes out to play only when she feels like it, lol. Hugs.

Martie:  What a lovely and encouraging comment Martie. I very much appreciate you as a writer and friend as well, and I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed this piece.

regards2you: It's wonderful to hear that you could relate to this piece Pat.  It's been a while since I've posted, so I'm not surprised that it might be the first you've read from me. I hope to be able to find the time to post more frequently again. Thank you for the lovely comment.

Mistletoe Angel:  Ah Noah … there you go again, making me smile. You are so very much appreciated, my young friend. Thanks you for your warmth, encouragement and friendship. You are a treasure.

Enchantress:  I'll try not to take so long between posts Enchantress, but I appreciate you understanding. I'm glad to know you enjoyed this one. Many hugs to you.

Scorpio:  Your comment is a beautiful phrase in and of itself Scorpio … thank you very much for the kind words, I'm very grateful.

Nakdthoughts:  Thank you for letting me know you liked the title and content Maureen. Funny, but this poem started with the first line milling around in my head. I had no idea where it was going until it was over, lol. Many thanks for your comments.

With much appreciation to all,

I've known this feeling well, but there's no way I could have expressed it with such wonderful imagery.

the earth will turn on as before,
the gulls, still race along the shore,
the morning star, still kiss the dawn

Dear Kit--

Just a note to let you know that this poem impressed me so much that I took it to our writing group to share it with the other members. I did this without asking your permission and I hope that you are not offended. I've never seen a better description of getting through the dark times of life and this poem holds out such hope.  Thank you for the inspiration.

My writing group, The Prairie Inkwells, agreed that this was a truly awesome poem.

I just adore your poems and get so much out of reading them. You are a brilliant writer and with oh so much talent.

I want to say I wish you would post more, but then, I never want anyone here to take your writing for granted.

Thank you again for the privilege of reading your works.  Hugs, Marti
