How silly when considering
Directions taken lit'rally
From signs on doors. Interpreting
Could lend us mass insanity.

A visit to the hospital,
A shopping mall or grocery store -
Confuses my occipital,
Just heeding signs on ev'ry door.

This one says "In" and that one "Out"
I saw one sign that said "Third Floor."
And one "Revolving" - turned about
'Absurd' I thought - for that's a DOOR!'

While one says "Push" - the other "Pull"
We "Enter" here, - "No Entrance" there
"No Exit" - But our hands are full!
Perhaps we "Exit" by the "Stairs?"

"Automatic Doors, Beware" I see
Beware? - Do they attack sometimes?
And then there's "Personnel Only"
Of course, they're "Kept Closed at All Times"

"Electric Closet" - lights? not brooms?
"Employee's Lounge" - for coffee break?
And then, of course, the two "Restrooms"
But, how much resting can they take?

"The Nursing Station"!?! - Babes nursing?
The "Central Bath" - for all to share?
I see one that says "Housekeeping"
They keep a great big house in there? .... Geesh!!

"Utilities" - doors side by side
One sign says "Clean" the other "Soiled"
Why not just open both up wide?
The "Boiler Room" - where things are boiled?

The "Fire Doors" - which aren't aflame
And "Smoke Doors" - also clearly say
"No Smoking" here - the same door's claim;
Confusion reigns to my dismay.

I think that I would love to see
The manner chaos we'd suppose;
I just might laugh hysterically
If all those signs were juxtaposed!

Oh yes, Nan...a laugh you brought to me, too.......from the picture and the  "DeSign" poem. To top it off, it was very true, also. Thanks for sharing your humor. I liked it very much.

Nan,
My wife still cracks up everytime we go to Ross and the exit door with a "do not enter" sign also says "pull" (which you make you entering where they asked you not to). Fun write again. Thanks.

Yeppers!  It's a dangerous and confusing world out there--and you certainly showed that there are some humorous aspects to it!

Hey Nan:  I read this last night and was laughing so hard I couldn't respond. So here I am this afternoon to tell you this is beyond fabulous. There are some really funny signs out there that make absolutely no sense to anyone. Personally, I think it's our weird English language!!

I told you about our dumb signs but it doesn't compare to yours - this is just hilarious, and the best I could come up with is in the Interior of B.C., and it says, "Watch for deer crossing during hunting season", duh, wonder what the hunters do when they see the deer crossing?

Great humor Nan, but then I know you are nuts

Good thing we don't have signs on this side of the ocean. We just bump into things, or spend days figuring out how the heck they work! Great fun poem Nan.

haha, Nan! A very fun read!

Saw a sign painted on a parking garage floor a couple of months ago - it read

The words STOP, then the desination for the area and floor - 2 P

STOP 2 P!

hehehee!

Thanks for the fun read, Nan...
I really needed this laughter tonight...
I especially loved those dangerous doors...
I guess we should always beware of them, shouldn't we...
this cracks me up...
It reminds me of the sign at the end of the street where I used to live when my kids were growing up... it said "slow children"
My kids always took it as an insult

Nan,
PLease stay away from the fire door!
How about the shop door that says open, when it's obviously closed
And what is a "pedxing" anyway?
What about "Slow cattle crossing". You'd think they'd teach them to walk faster
I saw a car that said "we stop for garage sales", yet he went through a red light
And what does 'I heart New York" mean?
Oh well, it's all over my head
I love this poem. it is food for thought
LOve ya
