REACHING

I stare out at the world sometimes,
And God I feel so small.
Mountains surround me on all sides,
Yet I ignore their call.
Strange beauty in isolation,
It's water that holds my will.
I’ve long longed for the ocean,
I’m longing for her still.

But trapped within these margins
I’ve struggled in-between,
The ruler measures my thoughts to
A seventeen inch screen.
Red underlines each misstep,
Till Hope lies undefined;
And inspiration bleeds from me
All Sanity’s inclined.

Senseless, aimless rebuttals,
I’m flailing in the wake
Of all I once though common sense,
I’ve since come to forsake…
To pay my adorations,
Acknowledge paradox,
Or just tip my hat to a man
Still trapped within a box.

It seems the story ever ends,
The plot’s never revealed.
The mystery Life slowly rends
For me remains concealed.
And so I tape my blistered palms
Once more unto the oars,
To sail for dreams I’ve never found
Upon these waking shores.

For silence is a virtue,
Where memory pristine…
And who would dare to step upon
A truth Time’s yet to glean?
Though peace may be a river,
Too often I’ve felt the drought.
Still, if acquiescence the answer,
I hope I never find out.

Michael Anderson

Michael

It is so good to see you posting.  As always your writing is with open palm, so true that I can feel the callus.  Wishing you the best.

The story never-ending,
The punchline never sprung.
I know my never-never land
Gave way when I was young.

And so I tape my blistered palms
Once more unto the oars,
To sail for dreams I've never found
Upon these waking shores.

For silence is a virtue,
Where memory pristine
And who would dare to step upon
A truth Time's yet to glean?

Few write the ache and angst wrapped in rhyme like you ... few make me feel every word...that last verse is pure poetry in motion.
What can I say that I havent said before...
you are such a gifted poet...and I, for one will always be grateful to get to read you..grateful your pen doesnt take that "silence is a virtue" as a vow....

Wanna know what my fave line was? ...

So good to read your wisdom and rhymes divine Michael.

Michael, this is an absolutely stunning poem. You captured so many feelings in this...so much truth. I don't think I've seen your work in this past month and a half that I've been here. I hope to see more of your poetry.

This piece flows along so smoothly and pulls the reader in so that they can picture clearly every word that you have written.

Welcome home, Michael.  You've been too long gone...and too sorely missed.  These words are like a balm...and how we shall all heal well, now that you are home again!

You SHINE in the DARK, m'friend - You knew that, of course...

My favorite lines -

"And who would dare to step upon
A truth Time’s yet to glean?"

Hoping all's well - Give Linda & Mikey hugs...
