~* Gramma's Garden *~

I look into her twinkling eyes,
hardly believing one year has passed.
Each day around this little girl,
More pleasant than the last.

It puts my mind into a trance,
To the days when I was small,
Holding my Gram’s hand so tight
Among sunflowers so tall.

I recall my favorite story,
How one summer day we found,
A group of fae in a fairy ring,
Dancing to a beautiful sound.

My mind drifts back to her house,
somehow recollecting those years.
I remember her saying, “Just believe
And anything comes true my dear.”

I see me on the porch of the house,
in the swing with her, and I sigh.
There I am running through the grass,
Underneath a brilliant summer sky.

A magnificent white poplar tree,
Became our secret place to play.
Sometimes she would drop everything
just to help me find the fae.

I remember I found a little elf,
Or so I thought I did,
We kept him in her jewellery box
and in the tree he was hid.

I would take him out of the box,
On days when I was blue,
He became the confidant
I told all my troubles to.

Gram and I danced in a fairy ring,
For fairies we’d keep calling.
Remembering her love for me,
I can’t stop my tears from falling.

I laugh, I smile, I cry a while,
Such wonderful memories in these tears,
As I recall our time together
When Gram tried to soothe my fears.

Now her house lies empty,
and her garden’s overgrown.
The poplar tree is but a stump,
in a garden where no magic’s known.

The sunflowers are no longer there,
with proud heads reaching for the sky.
It's a good thing God gave us memories
As those surely get me by.

But how wonderful it is that I
can drift back and have a chance,
to relive my enchanting childhood,
in a magical memory trance.

I wonder if someday my granddaughter
Will ever drift off and think of me,
I’ve repeated all the same stories
Of the elves, fairies, and poplar tree.

~* For Natasha's 1st Birthday *~

It is hard to believe
that this child is one year
grown so soon...

with so much love,
she will grow strong...

and believe in all,
just as you request.

Awwww...Sharon, this is just delightful and what a treasure for your little Tasha to keep. And what a treasure to have a gramma like you. She is one very lucky little princess.

Hugs, Marti

Very nice poem. I will have my eye open for more of your poetry.

I wish to become a great poet some day, but it will only come in time. Til then, I shall write my poems, and wait.

I am very delighted you enjoyed this little poem for Tasha's book. I guess the lesson here is that the time you spend with children now will be remembered tomorrow, as I sure remember my Gramma, and I know they are going to remember me - I'm fun!  He he, thanks everyone, and by the way, all your sweet comments get into the book too.

Such a wonderful poem to commemorate such a special event. Her first birthday....WOW! (were we ever one year old?)

Please pass on my heartiest congrats, Sharon, in whichever language one-year olds speak and let's pray that it's the first of many, many more to come in the passage of a wondrous lifetime for her.

  Happy Birthday Natashia!

My goodness ... one year old already!!!

This was a beautiful birthday poem to Tasha, Sharon ... one she'll treasure
for many years to come.  You got me reminiscing about a few special
people in my life, who made my young years so very dear to me as well.

Thank you for the memories, and for sharing with us, the memories you build
with your two lovely granddaughters. What a treat to read this morning.

Best wishes and big hugs to you and your birthday girl!
/Kit

All that comes to mind is how fortunate your grandchildren are to have you ans their grandmother. You participate so much in their lives and have given them so much love and joy. Your relationship is so much a part of their foundation and they will always feel blessed to have sometrhing that many don't have. This poem is beautiful and just a small example of the treasures they will keep
You are an amazing person!
Happy Birthday Tasha
