Grandma Dear
By Larry Chadwick
A heartfelt but so-so poem from the collection of poems I found that I wrote in 1993!

It was for many years, Grandma was living all alone,
And I know she longed to join grandpa and just go home.
They didn’t really have an easy life,
But she did enjoy being his wife.

It’s easy to tell by looking around,
The final curtain for her has come down.
All of us gathered here love Grandma so dear,
It will be a joy when we will hold her near.

Whenever I had hard times in my life to face,
I would head straight over to grandma’s place.
When I think of her leaving it makes me sad,
But when I think of her life it makes me glad.

What gives me the most confidence of all,
Is to know she has heard God’s great call.
And to know when we get to the promised land,
I will walk with grandma and grandpa hand in hand.

So now grandma, as I say farewell,
This one last time I must tell:
“You helped me find that heavenly path shiny and new,
So just one last time grandma dear…I LOVE YOU!

February 27, 1993

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

I wonder if it a fact that all Grammas are alike?  Was there a Gramma school?  Did they compare notes?  LOL, you could have written this about mine too Larry, and I still miss her.  What a wonderful tribute to your Gramma.

my grandparents have been gone for well over 25 years...but it's funny how I can still taste her cooking whenever I make a recipe that was hers...

There is no place like grandma's kitchen.  Mine are gone to........but I can still envision it.  Hugs.

(big hugggssssssss) God Bless You, sweet friend, I cried reading this as I love my grandma and grandpa so much and her cooking and her hugs and stories and parables and how she comforts me when I'm sad leaving every summer! (sigh) Know your grandma always loves you, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Larry, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
