The heart of you

Dear One, you hold my heart in your hands.
Once broken and empty, it is now healed and full.
All because of the touch of your love.
A touch that has shown me again
       The depths that love can reach
              When it is truly shared by two such as we.

My heart has been through much, Dear One.
It has known the beginning and the end of love.
I have heard lover's secrets whispered into it,
And felt the sting of lovers scorned as well.
But, until you my love, I had never known
       Just what it meant to love, and be loved;
              To be held by the heart as you hold me.

I know that sometimes, Dear One, the bruises still show.
There are times where they come back too quickly.
Pray, forgive me for my faults, My Love;
And, touch me even deeper with the feeling of your life;
Giving to me the words to speak,
       The songs to sing, and the courage to say them;
              So that I might love you even more.

And so, Dear One, the time draws nearer for my heart to fly.
To fly to your own as it has wished for so long.
I know that in your heart and in your arms
Is where my own heart and soul belong.
Hold me closer to your heart, Dear One,
       So that I might touch it
              As you have touched my own.
