M ~

I enjoy both writing, and reading, senryus. This form of Japanese poetry is one of my favourites.

Thank you!

And you seem to do it all SO exceedingly well!

Here's a question for you, oh learned one, what's the difference between a haiku and a senryu? I am fairly certain that a haiku in the true Japanese form is always about nature and has the 5-7-5 syllables. Yes?

Dear twisted sister, you are absolutely correct. A senryu is of the same form as a haiku but it is not about nature. I like writing little pearls of wisdom in "senryuic" form. tehe

I suppose if there were some references to nature in the poem as well as references that were not, I believe it is still considered a senryu because a haiku is strictly on nature.

Thank you for appreciating my efforts to write them!

Ahhhhh, and all this time I've wanted to write words in the form of haiku but not about nature. Now I know that it is called senyru. Oh thank you wise sister.

Watch out poets, she might get on a roll!

This reminded me of the description of a good painting...there are 3 focal points, the captivate and hold the viewer, continually pulling him/her back into the piece, unwilling to let them go, drawing the eye back in

fascinating senyru

I'm making myself pull away because I want to post one that was inspired by an arrangement at church today.

VAS ~

That was a highly complimentary reply and I most graciously accept.

Now I'll go and check out the senryu you're about to post!

Linda, thanks for sharing your senryu....
or is it   "s-e-n-y-r-u" ?  (both spellings are
posted here)
Now, one strictly about nature is a "haiku". Right?
Thanks so much for the poetry lesson. I
certainly do need it.

Beautiful words, Linda...
I have a hard time with haikus and senyru's because I always have too many words to say.
Chipmunks like to chatter...
but you, have a remarkable talent for these types of poems...
keep writing

Ethel  ~  "senryu" is the correct spelling--and yes, a haiku is "strictly about nature".
You're welcome re this writing lesson 101 (that's "one oh one"!--not "lol"--laughing out loud! tehe)---but if you want lessons 201 and up, you'd best ask the more experienced writers! LOL

~ I look forward to you giving this poetic form of Japanese short verse a try! They are so much fun to write!

You entertain, inform, amuse and confuse! You write of love, compassion, and the beauty of nature. Oh, yes, dear Queen Chip of the Munks---chatter away!

Sue, yes, I believe you do!--our higher self, the superconsciousness, is our connection to God's infinite wisdom and that is readily available to us all.
