        -ICEMAN

He painted an angry bull’s bloodshot eye on his back
Saw evil and tried to right it
Saw despair and tried to destroy it
     Each man has a weakness
     or two . . . or three
     his was compassion

He walked out into unforgiving night
that winked orange when clouds strode by
The bullseye more visible than ever
part of it peeled away by time

Three wastes of life dragged their cavewoman by her hair
thru their trusted sludge of an alley
propped her up against a dumpster

   Their weapons drawn and aimed
they saw the Iceman and his bullseye
It was too much to resist
but he had already smelled their sin,
following them like an invisible noon shadow
filling his hand with two Solutions
     and three Crosses of Salvation
Before they could flex their fingers
all three Crosses stitched their foreheads

He picked up the woman, who asked only
     “Who is the Iceman?”
her hand reaching around his back
pulling up the first three sagging letters and holding it to his coat:
     POL

Wow!!! Oh mny gosh, I am speechless after this first read, the bullseye seemed so vivid to me reading this, like it became more bloodshot every second then blinking in the end after the letters were unraveled on his back and letting out a tear! (sigh) I'm going back to read this again as I am speechless of what to say at the moment, this is awesome, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Jeff, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Jeff darling heart, there is in your writing a deep and abiding echo that lingers in the soul of the reader, so few writers can and do write this fewer do this as well as you do. It is a pleasure to read such well written expressive work. This is an utterly utterly utterly wonderful post. So incredibly well constructed the flow is excellent like a stream of crystal water it refreshes as it strokes the mind.

You know when I read your work I’m constantly amazed at how wonderfully expressive it is, its not that I don’t know you are a superb writer it is simply that I am astounded that each and every one of your poems is so brilliantly written. YOU know I love this darling man it is utterly utterly utterly perfect. Don’t ever stop writing such treats please.

Give my love to Dulcie and to Batman, tell Dulcie I see far too few of her poems and to send me a link the next time she writes since I have missed her writing too much, as I have missed yours

ShadowRider, what does POL stand for? I understand the vengeance part and the cross stitching but I don't understand the POL. Very vivid images here, very cool write

Morning Keth....just fixin' some coffee and thought i would answer real quick:
He was wearing a coat that had orange lettering on the back:
ICEMAN   and the POL had peeled down
put them together:
POLICEMAN
I am not sure that vengence is the correct word, tho, but more an 'obligation' that drew him to find evil.
Perhaps he was retired
Maybe he just was compelled
but the cross stiching was his brand of 'fire'
he put inside of them, three bullets that would
stop the madness that they spread.
