A Slow Fall

There are years, around here,
when fall doesn’t fall…
it flies by
on zephyr wings
and arctic breath

when Summer jumps into Winter
as if invited to a polar swim fest
where men play like bears
with little sense

some years.

Not always.

This is a molasses kind of year,
running slow, almost late, as if there were
no time like the present,

as if there were one more ball to attend,
a special sort of ball,
where one dresses in grand style,

with beaus all standing around
just waiting for her grand entrance
she, the debutante,
who arrives,
in red,

just because the color suits her
and she glows
with all of summer’s warm
held within…

where she will dance the night away
before the clock strikes 12
before the magic subsides
before the kiss of crystal ice
and the beaus hold their breath
with the wind’s tease of shimmy…

and its icy gasp shrivels the thread of each bit of lace,
allowing all to fall around her ankles,

just after
her last dance of summer.

~*~

I never thought leaves falling off a tree
could be so sensually romantic...Now I
do...  I was ever so slightly wrong...

Yeah,  go ahead..put that remark in your
bank of memories...along with all of those
orange/red leaves..

I attended a last dance today - one where fall was falling all about... This is a perfect tribute to this day.  It's as lovely as you are, my friend... Thank you..

the ending was picture perfect, Sunshine.  I must tell you something:  this morning, as i looked at the sun rising early, it backlit a large red bush, with a 1000 shades of blazing fire crimson that shone in the wet dew.  I shoke my head at the burning bush in awe.

mmm, I understand even though I am not a big fan of fall. I always thought is was a pointless cold, not snow or anything, trees all dying, but your fall seems more sad, like it is something I would want. Makes me wish for more fall.

I felt as though I were a spirit wisp at one with a falling leaf---enjoying the glorious view on the gentle descent to the forest floor.

Oh, the majesty of fall and of your writing.

Oh this is so beautiful, Karilea...
and its so true of this year...
I keep thinking it will end, but it just keeps getting better
I was so worried that because of the hot dry summer, we wouldn't have any color at all this year... but autumn has surprised us... and I am grateful because it may be my last

I want to thank everyone for coming in
to share what was a beautiful, albeit
overcast fall day, just this last Saturday.
I appreciate that my husband did our Xmas
shopping early...and my new camera works
with such clarity...and that it was, indeed,
a molasses kind of weekend...

I know words should stand alone.
As should all art, whether paintings, or photographs.
But these two just went together.
