Fame at What Price?
By Larry Chadwick
Hope you enjoy the collection of poems I found that I wrote in 1993! Here is one.

There once was a man who knew he’d be saved,
After all, he could make the critics rave.
It seemed that everywhere he would go,
He was someone the people would already know.

That’s what he liked most about fame,
It seemed everyone recognized his name.
As a result of the power of pride,
He was sure heaven would be a free ride.

He didn’t realize that with fame came a price,
Instead of living forever, he would die twice.
So when it was finally the judgment day,
He thought he knew the right thing to say.

Arrogantly he strode up to heavens gates,
Shocked that there in the line, they made him wait.
But no recognition from St. Peter could he see,
So he promptly reminded him, “St. Peter it’s me!”

St. Peter said, “Your name’s not on my list.”,
Furious, our friend still did not get the gist.
It was then he demanded, “It’s the Lord I want to see,
Someone needs to remind him it’s me!”

Once again he stood and waited at heaven’s door,
Expecting the Lord to show up with welcome adore.
Instead, it was Jesus who came to the gate,
Not until now did he begin to doubt his fate.

Jesus looked at him and said, “It was for you I died,
I waited a life time for you to overcome your pride.”
He stepped forward firmly believing he’d be let in,
Still not recognizing that pride is a sin.

“In your great effort to become number one,
you didn’t take time to know God’s only Son.
So this is the outcome of your own fate,
I don’t know you, you’re at the wrong gate.”

So if heaven is where you desire to go,
It isn’t who knows you, but who you know.
Get on your knees that’s where you’ll meet the Lord,
Then when the heaven bound train comes by get onboard.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Larry, this is so very sad but true, sweet friend, so many people who become famous seem to forget the real beauty in life and become avarice and arrogant and gluttonos and that deeply saddens me, and when there is one who is famous but also faithful and charitable to others, I respect people like that highly! (sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, you look so good in vintage too, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Larry, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Ethel,
Thanks. It was wierd to find any old poems as I wrote so little before last year.

Sue,
Nothing like an ego, eh? And thanks.

Noah,
And some of us will never have to deal with fame at all (like me). LOL Thanks.

Barry,
Thank you kind sir.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
