She glanced over her shoulder
but never saw his shadow
though she felt his icy sting.
Three steps forward she took,
into the pitch black alley of Life,
and she felt him surround her,
envelop her body and soul
with an arctic chill that froze
her mind into a solid numbness.

Caress me she said,
for I have waited
a lifetime for you.
In dreams I sought you,
in loneliness I cried your name,
though it often seemed only a game.
But not in vain,
for tonight you came
to lift me out of the darkness.

Hi Kacy...Like this, even with the dark images it ends with a positive note. Then again what's dark to one could be light to another...see...you left me inspired and thinking.

Excellent writing, I enjoyed traveling through the darkness to be able to see light at the end. Thanks for sharing your talent here.

There were times in my younger days when I wished I had a sting like that!  Nice writing.

This writing may explain how order comes about from disorder. I am enlightened now. Thank you.

Thanks to each of you who replied. This was one of those midnightmuse writes, where this midnite just let the words flow from the clouds to the keys, no planning, no editing. I am pleased you enjoyed it.

Kacy,
I've never seen your muse steer you wrong! Unless she put you on that camel.

Larry, that camel ride was my own idea, can't blame the muse for that mistake. LOL.

Vicky, thank you so much! It's so nice to get a reply from you.

Noah, I do most of my writing between 11PM and 2AM. My nickname as a kid was "Night Owl" and I was always getting in trouble for being awake at midnight at the tender age of 8.
