I used to read for him
because he had gone blind.
The things he chose were not my taste
but I didn't really mind.

But within the drone of text
I saw him nodding off--
so in the midst of stock reports
I told him I'd removed my top.

I thought that he was sleeping
but then I saw him smile...
"bad boy" I said to him in jest--
He asked me then to stay awhile.

"I never thought this day would come,
I wish that I could stare--
let the market drop--" he grinned--
"to hell with bulls and bears."

I worried about his pressure
as he sparked enough to shout:
"Who cares about the market--
I want the bottom to fall out!"

I continued reading
though I felt anxiety.
Somehow I knew without a clue
this blind man? He could see.

In memorium, yet again.

Rest in peace, or should that be "piece"?

Karen, this is a very different
style for you here, but Miss Serenity
you look very good in it. But, of course
you could write anything you want to, with
your talent.

BTW,  from what I understand, a person
who is blind has more "sight" than a person
who can see.....

Thanks for sharing, Karen.

*raises eyebrow*

That was wonderful. I have to admit though, I would never have thought of something like that...

Just knowing this man was a fountain of story--I called him my "leprechaun" and he was blonde and blue-eyed jewish--half---and if y'asked he answered most appropriate: "which half?"

He'd swear, the better half.

A dear dear friend o mine and I missed him before he died---

He died before we buried him.
so therefore
we don't grieve...

He may have been blind to some,
But his comprehension never paled.
His only regret was when you disrobed,
You wouldn't let him read in braille.

Well done, Serenity - There are so many facets to you.  This is a new one of you for me, and one I really love.

Beautifully written, Karen...
This man was definitely not too blind to see
It sounds like you lost a wonderful friend but he will always remain dear in your memory

I keep coming back to this...I guess because I miss him...so much.

He related this story to me once and I'd like to share it in closing. He was half-jewish. So, he said, when he retired, he wanted to be a "good" jew--so he retired to West Palm Beach, Fla. (He did live extravagent--west? was all he could afford.)

But...he told me he went to some "community" and he sat there fifteen feet from "shuffleboard".  He sat with those, he felt were his "kind"--but when it came time to order lunch? They ordered specialty soft salad--diabetically correct. He ordered a "bloody mary--PINK" and told them to put an extra stalk of celery in his drink--he'd crunch along.

But then he said the talk turned to children--and one said "My son the rabbi..."

The next talked of a daughter, a psychoanalyst....

and last? A man with trembling hands spoke of his son--"proctologist"--

and then this dear man interrupted.

"Well," he chipped in brightly, "My son co-wrote {sic} "The butthole song!"---co-wrote with Dennis Leary?...no?" He told me he saw blank stares.

So he left his drink and took his stalk of celery and politely said goodbye. He told them he "had things to do..."

They assumed he meant one afternoon. But NO...he packed his bags that day and booked a red eye flight--back HERE to US--N'Awlins..--"where" he said, "I'm understood."

*   *   *

I had to tell this story, without it? this man would be incomplete. We miss you "ron" but I understand--no way you'd let them amputate your feet...

for YOU, "Ronnie..." Rest in peace? maybe...but more like Pace in PEACE.
