at times, he missed her more
a second would do;
a solitary second apart
would set his heart aflutter
yes, the import of her smile
could make all the difference
call it weakness,
call it need;
call it human desire-
but study her tenderness for an instant
and even stars will panic
to forgive and blink their understanding
