After nine months of wondering
Full of fears, anticipating
October brought you to my arms
Screaming, tiny, captivating.
While leaves were rustling in the wind
And breaths frosted in air turned cold,
I inhaled the essence of spring
In that moment I got to hold
A lovely mite, so clean and pure
My daughter, delicate and fresh -
Magic incomprehensible
Had created you from my flesh.
Girlhood was left behind right then
And I became someone's mother.
If I'd had my choice of lives
I wouldn't trade for any other...
I would just ask for one more day
To have your laughter fill my ears,
One more day to store up kisses
To sustain me through lonely years,
One more mile I could hold your hand,
One more night to whisper my love,
One more giggling hour in the park,
One more viewing of stars above.
We would laugh right through breakfast time
Without worries of being late.
I'd read to you just one more book -
Bedtime schedules would have to wait.
If only there was one more flower
In this simple birthday bouquet
Another year of memories
Would be wrapped in my heart today.
Every day I think of you
But shiver in October's chill
And think of the warmth you gave my life -
I miss that... and always will.

In memory of Rachel, October 29, 1974 - March 11, 1998

Little Chick: Your Mother Hen, your Toerag, and your friends miss you so much. Please contact us... we worry... we love you. HUSG!

For any of you who don't know...Suthern, Rainbow Girl, LongJohn, Passing Shadows, Ilovet, and a few others around here used to all belong to another forum for many years until LongJohn told us about this lovely place...My name "Toerag" was given to me by Rainbow Girl...a wonderful Brit that for some odd reason thought I was a Rascal and incorrigible and mischievious, (just goes to show ya how odd those Brits are..right?)LOL...She is truly one of my favorite people and I pray she comes to visit....and this poem has a lot of meaning to Sweet Rainbow and nobody could have written it better than Suthern...

Suthern ... this is absolutely beautiful. What a lovely tribute to the memory of a dear child. I think many will relate to this heartfelt piece, and upon reading, it will prompt those who are blessed to still have their children, to take that extra moment today, to cherish and give thanks for their young blessings. Truly a beautiful piece. Thank you for starting my day with this lovely read.

Best wishes,
/Kit

Very touching and lovely. I don't know her, but she must be a very special person.

Hugs, Marti

Kethry: I first thank you for reading and responding... after it sat for a few hours with no responses, I was afraid it was wretched, no matter how much love pushed the pen. *S* And that certainly wasn't what I wanted... not for any poem and certainly not for Cindy's. *S* And then you gave me "stunning"... and I left for work wearing tears of gratitude... I thank you, dear lady... so very much. *S*

Toerag: You dear... *S* Odd the Brits may be... but she certainly had you pegged. LOL (Not to be confused with Long John's peg leg… I will never forget him rowing to England... and rowing... and rowing... and rowing! LOL) I echo your prayer that she visits... to see the posts she left last night made my heart soar with hope. *S* Thank you, sweet man... for everything... and most especially for your confidence I could do this. *S*

Kit: There's always been an empty ache in my heart and my arms that motherhood wasn't to be for me. But I know that hurt is a mere blemish compared to the agony of losing a child… so if this truly can make one person take an extra moment to cherish the gifts that bless their lives, it will have exceeded my greatest hopes and expectations. *S* Thank you so very much!

Elizabeth: Her spirit is beautiful, isn't it? *S* I think it's sustained her through trials that would have conquered a lesser person... I know I miss her so. *S*  Thank you so much for loving this offering... and its author. *S*

M'toe: I promised Rainbow long ago that Rachel would never be forgotten… not as long as those of us who love her mother so much still live. *S* And that's what this poem is... the keeping of a promise. *S* Thank you very much... I hope those angel hugs touch her heart today... and always. *S*

NewEnglandazurlu: She is indeed special... you would love her if you knew her... it's impossible not to. *S* Thank you very much... I'm glad you liked! *S*

You are a good friend to remember October and Rachel with this beautiful poem.  I hope that RainbowGirl comes back to take a look at it.  She is in my heart, for sure, even more so because we share similar October memories.  Thank you for this.

Suthern beloved heart I saw this earlier and of course read it right there and then, but waited till it slipped a bit so I could do ‘Bev de Bump’s’ job and give it the bump it so richly deserves. There are those who may read and not be stunned by the talent and the amazing fluidity of this wonderful poem of your soul, but I cannot imagine whom they may be.

When I read this I was initially shocked, or more precisely astounded, I knew that your writing was beautiful, but this is truly outstanding. The way you have written this fills me with real awe, the beauty the essence of the spirit is perfectly displayed and only a writer of your calibre could have achieved this wonder.

You know I love this utterly utterly utterly and YOU darling heart are a writer of really beautiful lines of truth, this is superbly done

Well done, Ruth!  You are such a classy lady.  Hugs

I guess I don't need to say it, but I will anyway - there are a lot of us who truly love Rainbowgirl.  Yes, even after being severely rebuked for my calling her a "Tart," she still treated me better than she treated that rascally scalawag Toerag.

Thanks for dropping in, Queen.  We've all missed you so very much.

Goodnight, sweetdreams, sweetheart
one more year
tears welled up
at your loss
but smiles
at the memory
will never be forgot...

it's hard
my muse just upt and left
and words
went out the door
but friendship
such over-riding love
will always be
held in heart
exempt

no woman can tell a story
unless she feels it so
no friend can write a poem
unless the depth has grown

Thank you Ruth
it's poor but rich
and I love you so...

so little, yet so much...

Cindy, Rachel and snoops
yellow roses
one more added
to the bouquet
of love
***

The emotion is this poem surpasses all other years Ruth - for me, Marti and the many other women who never had children or who did and subsequently lost them, but the emotions can't be divided, my loss is yours and yours is ours!

so inept at trying to find words I forgot to add my HUSG....and on readin again I realise it might not sounds as I meant, but I meant rich in all ways good, priceless in fact.

Bless you Ruth, once again, it was you who remembered and that was what I meant by poor/rich, how sad that family forget and friends who work so hard at just being themselves, I've said it once and I'll say it many times more, of that I'm sure...

Thank you - Mother Hen

And this is why you are such a very special person, need I say any more than this was so loving, compassionate, and so you Ruth, and that is why we love you.

This was beautiful for RainbowGirl but oh how you warmed Martie's heart too, and this has truly left me so filled with emotions so mixed.  I wish them both a place of peace and with people that care like you I am sure that they are finding it or have indeed found it.  Beautiful, just beautiful.

RainbowGirl: If those words are inept, may I be struck with the affliction! *S* Your Goodnight, sweetdreams, sweetheart is simply lovely... and heartwrenching. I can’t understand your family... don’t even care to anymore... but I pity them for what they’re missing... and I remember that friends are family you choose for yourself... and looking back up this list at all the people who love you, I’d say you’ve chosen well. *S* I’m so very, very glad you like this. *S* Hugs and HUSG and lots of love... your very own Mother Hen.

garysgirl: You’ve shown a lot of that compassion, love and sweetness yourself. *S* Thanks for reading! *S*

Mysteria: When I read Martie’s incredible poem The Ash, my heart just overflowed. I think it’s a tribute to the overpowering “everlasting” of love that two daughters I never knew became so very important to me through the hearts of their mothers. *S* I am pleased beyond measure that Martie likes this... so glad you like it, too! *S* Thank you very much! *S*

regards2you: These responses have certainly warmed my heart. *S* Thank you so very much! *S*

Earth Angel: Why, of course, I have wisdom. *G* I appreciate that fine Toerag, don’t I? LOL Thank you very much... your kind comments moved ME to tears... I’m grateful to you. *S*

Ah, Suthern gal, you are indeed full of wisdom, even in spite of Toerag. I remember (painfully) when you all showed up and turned this nice little quiet place into the fiasco it is now! (and I wouldn't change it for the world)

Rainbow, I've missed you and never forgotten how you 'sat' with me all night with the hurricane approaching to make me feel more at ease. You are a very special lady and will always be thought of with a smile.

Ruth, the poem is beautiful and well-written. No doubt Cindy appreciates it as well as the rest of us. Thank you for this......
