Becoming Autumn

I can smell autumn in wetness of dawn
In shuffles of leaves on the road and the lawn
I inhaled aromas of earth and of bark
As soon as the sun had intruded the dark

I can see colors in dawn’s subtle light
Like finger paint dabbles on paper of white
Collages and clusters run random and wild
That could only be rendered by hands of a child

I can feel bite of the chilly new winds
Lifting me up through the black barren limbs
I am a leaf swirling round above trees
I am a wren flapping into the breeze

I am the flutter of gathering wing
Marking a voyage from autumn to spring
I’ve become autumn for I have just lived
Some small grains of moments that nature has sieved

My lungs filled with briskness, my eyes filled with hues
Of dabbling fingers and thoughts of a muse
My heart beats with sounds of the wings taking flight
The moment the earth spun away from the night

My spirit soars round like a circling hawk
Oh, the treasures I’ve won from a short morning walk!

Your dabbling fingers have painted
my morning picture, Lady Santos, so
now?  I start my day with a smile!

My goodness~when I grow up I want to write just one sonnet - just one - and would that it could even paint half the picture this one did.  Awesome dude.

Well done Liz.

A walk in the brisk, autumn air can really open our hearts, minds, and eyes to the beauty that surrounds us. This is very nice - enjoyed!! Chris

This was a delight. I'm looking out my window as I reply and smiling from the words you've written.

Great imagery and an appreciation of the free beauty around us.
