Lost
Or I can’t tell my left from my right

It’s not so much I don’t know the way
As that I get confused I’m sad to say
And it’s not my fault we got lost a lot
I simply in the midst of all, forgot
It’s very well to say left or is it right
But let me tell you of my sad plight
I can’t tell which is correct you see
Because I use to be a lefty

It started when I was very small
I used to attend my nursery school
No left-handed child would grow well
A criminal or a devil, who could tell
So they made me use my right
And since that time it is my plight
To confuse my poor addled brain
With directions that sound the same

I use my right hand, as I should
Try my best to be always good
But when you ask of me which way
A kind of blank look comes as I say
I haven’t got a single clue
I’ll leave the directions up to you
Which is it I have no idea
I’ve got us lost again I fear

A case in point was Tampa’s bay
It wasn’t me you’ll hear me say
But really yes I’ll admit it was me
Who got us lost so constantly
Whenever the choice was left or right
I’d say I can’t see it’s too dark tonight
So back across the bay we’d trot
And another course I’d try to plot

Wherever we went I’d lose the way
How many times we crossed that bay?
Was it seven or was it more
Krissy was savage and almost swore
They threatened me yes they did
Krissy nearly blew her lid
In all the confusion this was clear
They all wished I would disappear

But now the strangest thing is this
My affliction has infected Kriss
We got lost coming back home
Across Philly’s airport we did roam
We couldn’t find our wretched gate
And feared that we would be too late
We did eventually find our way
But one of our cases went astray

And not only that did you hear?
Maureen lost her car. I almost fear
My curse is affecting those near me
But it’s not my fault, honestly
If my teachers had left me a lefty
I wouldn’t be so confused constantly
Left would be left and right be right
And I wouldn’t have this dreaded plight

A criminal or a devil, who could tell

They almost had you pegged from an early age, hunh? LOL

This is delightful, Marsha. *G* But you're not alone... I tell my brother-in-law it's his cajun ancestry when he turns the wrong direction... "Take a right at the light... No, Steve... your OTHER right!" LOL

I was laughing before I even opened this... you've got a dual post... guess either way you turn, you won't get lost? LOL

I enjoyed this very much, Marsha!!! *S*

LOL! I understand they are going to name part of the Tampa Airport after you, mushy! Did you really need two tanks of gas to get over the Tampa bridge????LOL!

I know how confusing it can be. I imagine how I would do in your neck of the woods!

As far as Krissy is concerned, I think that, if she had been with Columbus, America would STILL be undiscovered!!!

(just don't forget how to find your way back!!!!

Leave me in the city proper
where streets are north, south, east & west
and I can find my way
right along with all the best!

But take me to the countryside
where up is north and wide is wide
point me here and there and whoa!
I'm not sure which way to go!

Smiling at Marsha...I'm glad you found yourself back home, safe and sound!

Suthern beloved heart, ‘tis true darling heart only too true, and would you believe if I told you I was taught by nuns, and they used to sigh all the time and constantly ask for HIS assistance. (as if i needed devine intervention to behave) Oh you have no notion of how difficult it was to read your maps, when you all drive on THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD.  What with that the exits so confusing and me simply not being able to tell my left from my right and I admit I was totally confused.

‘Deer dearest heart, ………… Now that is a scurrilous accusation about the petrol, and is unfortunately true, how did you know? I thought we’d kept that bit of information quiet. Oh well it was bound to get out. Tampa probably will miss us, I think we were just about to become a tourist attraction, the airport was definitely Keth and Krissy’s favourite hangout, I can’t imagine why……….. except that they had both developed a penchant for the guy who checked the boot / trunk. As for me returning I will one day, most definitely, I really loved Florida

Kari darling sister of heart that we did and I wish hourly that I was back in sunny Florida. Thank you for your little rhyme it was as always so sublime. Glad it made you smile that is what it was designed to do

Vandana darling girl thank you always for your support it is so appreciated, thank you muchly

Marsha,
I loved this, but it isn't funny when you finally get the hang of right and left and I get the hang of watching your hands instead of listening to your voice and then I change the instructions to west or east. lol. We really shouldn't be allowed loose in a country where every direction read go west on... and then we come come to a crossroad where both ways were listed as west.

Keth beloved heart, it wasn’t so much the fact I lost the plot love it was more that the directions simply lost me. I agree it wasn’t funny when we were in Tropicana and there wasn’t a soul around and we’re looking for someone to give us a hint as to where we were and how to get back to Tampa airport.

I was just taking the advice of the Spaniard, who was taking Vicini’s advice, when a plan goes wrong go back to the beginning, Tampa airport was the beginning, was it my fault it was also the end and the middle?

Truly darling I am glad you love me otherwise you might have taken on board Krissy’s suggestion that you all murder me and throw my body into the bay. Thank the Lord for you and providence.

Missing you terribly, Quiet you for the soto voice comment, she does everything terribly one does the best with the material available *Smile

mum excellent writing it was very funny. This poem  really reminds me of Tampa a real lot. Turn right, turn left I never stood a chance did I. Which way should I  turn I was trying to make up own mind but everyone was making it up for me.  Mum tells me to turn right or left, right on top of the turning so I do not know where I stood did I. This is outstanding. Beautiful work, exquisite writing

Very well written

so funny, Marsha..but I think I was meant to be left handed too. I am left footed (don't laugh) and my mom and sister are left handed..so maybe that's why I have been left without so many times...

It's true, I spent 99 dollars  to stay in a Hampton Inn the night I returned home because I could not find my car on the satellite parking lot...I did get a good nights sleep though, IN A BED..

and found my car in the daylight in ten minutes in the morning.. ggeezzzz  maybe you
ARE rubbing off on me!!!

(sigh) Oh Marsha, I'm just happy you made it back safe and sound, I can understand the frustration and if I were a teacher there I would say "Leave her alone and let her use whatever and she desires!" (big hugggssssss) This is wonderful, sweet friend, always use the hand that suits you best, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Marsha, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

hi sis!

you have me cracking up laughing over
here!! i can imagine how truly confusing
it must have been to ya'll...just the
driving on the other side (notice I did not say wrong)of the road would be hard enough.
but then combine it with our traffic
and confusing maps hmm yes it is a lot.
now here is the scary though, florida is
quite mild compared to some of the traffic
in the US! HaHa...you had the slow drivers,
if you can believe that?! LOL
I love you! Glad you guys can laugh about
all of this...

Love,
me

I have the same problem, Marsha...
And I also used to be a lefty when I was a tiny tot.
My parents turned me into a righty because all of the school desks were designed for right handed kids and they were worried that I would get all mixed up... which is, of course what happened anyway
I still use my left hand for a lot of things, but I do write and eat with my right hand.
Now I have compensated for being directionally impaired by having a rearview mirror with a digital compass built into it...
It always lets me know which direction I am facing...
Thats what you should ask for for Christmas...

Dearest Marsha - I am a "lefty" too!! The teachers tried to change me in first grade...but I refused...lol. I was a tiny tyrant....possibly still am.    Enjoyed this, Chris
