He stood waiting

Toe often visited the local church
Trying, I am told, to mitigate the effects
Of bathroom humor and what some have thought
To be a personality

On this day
When clouds filled the sky with the dark grey
Reminding him of his underwear after wash day
Toe stood waiting outside the door he had opened and closed
Trying to decide whether to enter or not
when a strange feeling grabbed at his heart
and he cried….

Tears were not foreign to him
For, as we all have, he has seen his share of loss

The time his septic service truck overflowed
And he had to forget adding that almost full load to his
Ever growing backyard collection
His wails then had sent even the bravest of pigs running.

The time he had tricked the Minister into letting him
Take up the collection only to be caught skimming
A wee bit of extra off the plate for his wages
How he had cried at the loss of income!!

Yes, He’s known loss and pain…
But this was different and the tears he just couldn’t
Seem to explain

Could it be guilt?
No… he reasoned,
One had to have done something to feel guilt
And he knew for a fact he had never done a thing

Could it be he had a hurtful nature?
And had caused others pain?
Again he pondered but the answer was the same

No… he reasoned,
One had to be mean spirited to treat people
In such a manner
And he knew he had no spirit at all
So that could not be the game

Finally,
Larry walked up to join him
For on Thursdays the church always had
A charity breakfast that Toe and Larry enjoyed.

Larry took one look at Toe leaning dejectedly
With his head against the door and saw his tears,

Opened the door
And freed Toe’s ear.

This is obviously a bunch of total hogwash! *G* Poor gullible Cpat... not only did someone (probably Balladeer) tell you a bunch of awful falsehoods about that sweet near-saint Toe, they had Larry helping him out!!! And you believed it!!!!

Cpat... I've got some swampland I'd like to sell you, ole fella... prime real estate! LOL

But I do appreciate you mentioning that grey underwear... It's false, of course... but could serve a good cause? I've applied for the position of maid at his house... now I'll bring clorox to the interview and all my dreams will come true! *G*

Hey, wasn't me, suthern gal. Cpat doesn't even talk to me. He has simply observed what all normal people observe about Toerag....he's a BOZO!!! At least he is now getting his well-deserved recognition, even in free verse!

Now Deer.... I talk to you ( geez guess it must be hard when you get that old and forget who talks to you and who doesn't )

I in fact have admired your work numerous times. ( now wondering if I am too old to remember if I commented on it or just admired it the way I have to just admire women now not comment on them )

Heck.... I think I even talked about you a time or two in the last coule of days.... always of course meant in the most flattering way.. ( laughing to myself now..knowing Deer is a pushover for flattery)

Cpat,
I'll settle for the fact that Toe was at church. After all, it's not for the well it's for the sick!

Cpat, I appreciate your letting us know how difficult times have been for our beloved Moe, I mean Joe, I mean toe, I mean Toe. We should all gather 'round him in his time of need.

I for one, am extremely grateful that Larry was able to release Toe's rear, I mean ear, from the door.

Larry, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you from saving our friend frm a fate worse than death. You truly are an angel.

--and Cpat! You're the greatest friend that Toe has, or ever will have. I can't say enough about that (altho' I bet Toe could! tehe)

Linda
