Hear The Spirits Speak

Held within the legends that are told
are the secrets of their life's mysteries,
of the injustices they have endured
through out the passing of times history.

Once upon a time was traveled
a trail of tears that was tread
while watching loved ones fall
upon Mother Earth they bled.

Listen closely to their cries
in the stillness of the night
feel the pain that they have suffered
as Spirits walk in Luna's light.

The buffalo no longer roam
across the wide open plains
for the white man has moved in
with no purpose other than to gain.

The white wolf still cries at night
encircling thoughts of brothers lost.
The irreversible damage was done
and they cared not of the cost.

When the breeze blows calmly
spirits of the elders still speak,
and the message can be heard
it is but peace that we should seek.

If I have touched one heart through my words, then I have acheived my dream...

Donna, this especially touches me because I'm half native American and my Cherokee ancestors walked that trail of tears.  Thank you for this.     *hugs*

Donna, I love this. Having some Native American ancestry myself, I feel a very real connection with this kind of poetry. I wish you would share more of it with us. Thank you, sweet Donna.

Donna, I may not have a single drop of native blood in my body, but I do in my soul.
Since I was a very young girl, I read everything I could on North American Indians. I visited reserves and collected artifacts and art. I immersed myself in their culture. Between the ages of 7 and 17 I lived in northern Ontario and had many native friends. They enriched my life and instilled the love of nature that I still have today.

This was a very moving and spiritual piece of writing.

This is just very lovely~
It's so apparent that you took the time to 'listen'~
It's a special happening when the Spirits choose to channel their messages through those of us who stand still and 'hear'~

Donna, This is so special and I am honored to be able to read it and tell you how much I love it.

The spirits speak through you to give the message to all of us.

'... Listen closely to their cries
in the stillness of the night
feel the pain that they have suffered
as Spirits walk in Luna's light.
The buffalo no longer roam
across the wide open plains
for the white man has moved in
with no purpose other than to gain...'

Words that speak with such truth and pain.  Thank you for sharing this ... there is much to be learned from these words.

Hugs, Marti

I don't have a clue how that happened.  The spirits work in mysterius ways.  Maybe some of those could be deleted?  Help?

Nowhere was it more evident than right here in the States, that man has a genocidal spirit when it should be filled with Peace and Light.

Donna, you have written an important poem and deserves the many many accolades bestowed by the replies.  It was and is a stunningly memorable tale of Spirit.
