Autumness

I took a walk through Autumness
Its pleasure was my only goal
I never thought that painted hills
Would settle deep within my soul

A simple stroll in morning sun
Along familiar wooded path
Of all life’s joys, love was the best
And this became the other half

I breathed the air of orange leaves
Refreshing life with every breath
Then orange colors filtered through
To places of my spirit’s depth

A crimson maple, yellow oak
Then penetrated both my eyes
But traveled deeper than my sight
To where forever softly lies

The wetness of the fallen leaves
And weeds of amber, golden bronze
Gave lifeblood as I cupped my hands
Collecting dew along the pond

The dew was wine anointing life
To heart through every artery
The crimson sank into my eye
With gold of nature’s purity

I can’t recall the reason why
My spirit never was so blessed
With colors filling every breath
In painted hills of autumness

Lizzie this is so very lovely...your poetic blending of color, imagery and personification of natures gifts created a portrait of a seasons change and a heart's rediscovey in that cycle.
You penned a landscape and took us there with you. Beautiful writing poetess of grace.
I will have to share this with a friend that will love your perspective and cadence.

Unknown to us, there are moments when crevices open for time to come alive with begining.

Gosh Liz, this is just a stunning description of Autumness. Were you with me over the weekend as I walked around Walden Pond?

"...The dew was wine anointing life
To heart through every artery
The crimson sank into my eye
With gold of nature’s purity..."

This is so beautiful it almost has me in tears.  Hugs, Marti

Elizabeth,
The velvet glove of Autumness
The in and out of doves finesse
Once again you've shot an arrow
That goes into the very marrow.
Lovely my dear.

Liz, I believe this is the most beautiful autumn poem I've yet to read here.  This is true art from the pen.

The stars will shine when I am gone,
the earth will turn on as before,
the gulls, still race along the shore,
the morning star, still kiss the dawn

'A crimson maple, yellow oak

Each line is incredible, your imagery is breathtaking, and the cadence and rhyme are impeccable.  This is exactly how I see autumn, especially this year, for some reason.  It is those crimson maples that get me, though.  Wonderful write, Liz!

As an avid outdoors woman, I appreciate how you captured the essence of autumn and I'm anxious to head for the hills tomorrow and commune with nature!

Simply lovely!
