Do Not Weep

Do not weep for me, my children
When I leave this earth
For you are heirs to treasures
Well beyond a measured worth

I’ve left a box of jewels
Many gold and silver rings
The amethysts and diamond broche
Among the glittering things

A wooden chest filled to the brim
With heirlooms made of lace
And chinaware hand painted
Brought back from a distant place

You will have my house and all
The contents left behind
For each of you a sweet bouquet
Of roses from the vine

So open up the treasure chest
And let it fill your heart
With wonders of the universe
To all I now impart

The golden ring’s a rising sun
That creeps o’er mountain’s crown
The amethyst is purple dusk
When sun is sinking down

A thousand times a thousand stars
That blink across the sky
Are glittering from my treasure chest
Into a child’s eye

My lace is web of silken thread
Spun by a spider’s grace
Illuminated by the early rays
On dewdrops face

My home to spirit and to heart
That joy of life instills
Are woodlands that are blanket
To the Pennsylvania hills

And so, my children, do not weep
My heritage for you to reap
Are jewels to light the season’s eye
In meadow, woods, and diamond sky

Believe me Liz, whenever I think of the beautiful nature in Pensylvania, your lovely face pops up and I hear again the love for those woodlands in your voice.

You couldn't leave us a better heritage my dear lady.

Hugs, Titia

Liz,
I had no idea I was your heir! Thrilling poetry gifting not just your children. It doesn't get better than a keeper like this!

My Dear Elizabeth, This is so beautiful it made me cry.{wipes a freshly grown tear from cheek} I am in awe. I have now words appropriate to my feelings at this moment other than to say you have taken the change of season and painted it onto the page for all to see and enjoy. Thank you for sharing this.

Elizabeth, the treasures of nature, as seen through your eyes, are wonders to behold!

Majestic, divine, and filled with soulful meaning.

Wonderful words Liz. The best gift people like yourself leave this world is that you were in it.

I have seen inside this jewel of heart
that weaves with her words, her very soul.
I know that when she leaves this earth,
her poetry will keep her family whole

Dear friends,
Your resonses to this poem are overwhelming and so lovely, I read them as though you had written the poem. In a sense you did, as you all are an inspiration to me always, and that is passed on to my children. I read each comment twwice before I could respond. Thank you, dear poets. You have warmed my heart

Liz, a most beautiful gift from your heart.  Pennsylvania is so beautiful throughout the different seasons.  Autumn is glorious here where I live in Pa and the snow on the mountains is a sight to behold.  This is a gem to cherish my friend.  Hugs to you.

Midnight POmeo, I'm glad this poem was warming in some way. Thank you

Gentle Spirit, Oh, you know about everything I write then, because you actually live it. I love to write about the nature around me and it's very peaceful here.
Thank you

Liz
