(Pardon if this is a repost. I can't recall)

The Lotus Position

With eyes half closed she sits erect;
back straight; buttocks flat against a floor
of hard, smooth oak. Her thighs and calves
offset their flesh look by approximating
an isosceles triangle. The insight gained
by the attempt to suppress thought
through geometric technique
submits, however, as breath
rhythmically asserts her nipples
against the fabric of her leotard.
On top of this, an open door admits of scent
lazing in the adjacent garden
a-hum with bees centering.

Good use of the senses here, Bob.

Been taking yoga myself and the prankster in me wants to write one about the "down dog" position. Heh.

This is a unique and very special poem. It captured my interest in several ways.

Bob, this was a very good poem. I like yoga, also. By the way, since I'm kind of new here, I appreciate all the reposts you sweet poets do. I may not see these excellent works any other way. Thanks for sharing.

Ethel

Corinne ... Alas, I am not a student of yoga (did I put that correctly?) so you have me at an advantage, which sounds rather like tennis. This poem is a response to a friend's description of her involvement in the discipline, yoga, not tennis. Anyway, thank you for taking a moment to comment. I always appreciate your thoughts. Bob

Manju ... Thank you. You also sound as though you are a student.

James ... Ah, the male perspective. Thanks much.

Earth Angel ... I appreciate your kind words. Thank you.

garysgirl ... Thank you, Ethel. And ....WELCOME.

I have tried yoga,
but when I make the attempt,
I hear music
my foot starts to tap
and my mental flutters

so instead of breathing deep

I stand

and dance.
