I'd rather face a sucker punch
than this assault upon my ears.
The things you say don't go away--
they feed upon my fears.

They grow to such proportion--
a demon birth, I feel.
So close your mouth, and take a shot--
at least those bruises heal.

You write this very well, and I know exactly what you mean. I wish there was something I could say to help, but I know nothing erases the pain, or destroys the memories of unkind words. Unkind... undertatement. Sorry.

That was depressing.

Hon, this is so true; there is nothing worse than a verbal assault.  I hope you didn't get one recently ...

(big hugggssssss) Oh Karen, I too understand the pain within a verbal assault, I hope you haven't had to endure any recently as my heart goes out to you if you are! (sigh) This is powerful, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Karen, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Karen,
It seems to me that the beauty of your poem is in its author. I'm confident the one throwing that sucker punch would live to see regret. But I'm opposed to any form of abuse as I certainly know...you are too.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

hey...thanks all, especially Larry, because you DO know me--and thank you for clarifying for me....

I was just looking at a scar on my elbow, and couldn't for the life of me remember how I'd gotten that. Then, in the way my brain works, I started thinking about my rotten memory--then? in that ever argument I have with myself, I thought it strange, that I could forget something like that and yet? I can still remember harsh words from LONG ago...and so I started thinking some more about the physical biology of pain--and how we have cellular memory of physical trauma, (burn yourself, and you instinctively react to fire in the future) so THEN I thought that the psyche was much better at remembering, and how everything is indoctrinated as part of our very being...and that patterns must be unlearned through reversal of habitual reaction to the stimuli...and...that's a lot of thinking for two verses, huh?

laughing...

it's true.

I think too much.

But thanks for reading.

no
you don't think too much

you think
because you are
AWAKE

you're awake
because you
THINK

and?
this poem does bad things to me
and you know what they are

Ooo, excellent write, love!  Great emotion, wonderful flow; I loved absolutely everything about it, except for one small thing.  You should be smiling.  *wink*

Karen, like Larry, I know exactly what you were saying. I also hate abuse, as some of you already know from the thing I wrote last week, I think it was. I don't know if it's called a poem, or not. I got it in my head, too, and just wrote. I like the way you can say so much in such few words, Karen. I wish I could learn to do that. But like Cpat said in one of his replies, I seem to feel that I have to put all these words out to get my explanation across???? Like now, it seems!!!!!
