somebody's dungeon

There is too much within this frame
tumultuous mixture of past deeds
unfulfilled needs, and dreams that
faded, like shadows with come of day.

Filled to overflowing is soul, and spirit
with the nightmarish swill of "if only"
to the point of shattering the still life
that I must accept as living.

I resent the lack of room now, there
in the midst of me, for love,
for compassion, or passion

but must live with fate as is,
there is no more than this.

Anne,
The joy of getting older. Just when you think there's no more room... It's that elasticity of living that continues to confound the specialists and mostly our friends. I have faith in you.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

I can't think of a better title for this poem. I don't like fate too well but someone has to describe it. Thank you.
