Hear the thunder drum
pounding out a spirit-pulse.
Hear the hearts beating
faster, and faster, and faster.
Drum and hearts beating as one.
Hear the sound of the feet
stomping upon the ground
into their cross-stepping
measured beats. Hear the chants,
the cries of the dancers crying out.

"Come, O'Ancient One, come.
Hear the drum calling
to Your Thunderbeings.Swoop
down, O' Spirits.And, lift
our dancing-hearts with your wings."

Hear the thump, thump,
thumping...
as the dancers sway
invoking the Ancient One
to join them, to send
His thunder rolling
across the sky
into the misty hope
of the waning light.

This primal beat pulsates within my chest and throughout my body---calling me to dance the dance of our native peoples' ancestors.

I feel a carefree sense of abandon---and an a desire to be at one with all that is.

Ivy, how appropriate that you wrote this during the Harvest Moon. Our Native American ancestors are smiling on you.

now my ears are ringing with the sound. Powerful magic you've painted in this muse.
