I'm a Jack-of-all-trades,
And master of none,
I've got plenty of projects,
But don't get them done!

For when I start something,
It holds me awhile,
Then I'm off on a tangent,
As is often my style.

I can't seem to finish,
What I have begun,
For my interest soon wanes
And I'm off at a run!

To something that's different
And a challenge to me,
I'll soon be good at it,
But no expert, you see!

For I lack the stay-power,
To get the job done,
So how can I ever,
Be number one?

You are number one here

As is this poem. I'm the same way. I've learned over the years not to feel guilty about it anymore either. How I do that is to throw away all the unfinished stuff. See then not only do I not have to look at it, but in a way it's done then.

WhiteRose ~

Ah, so you can identify with this! I have many interests and have a tendency to jump from one thing to another. Fortunately, over the years, the time I have spent on each of them has added up, so that I have actually ended up accomplishing a fair bit in my life!---but it certainly has been a circuitous route! haha

it sucks, don't it?

I know how you feel, and I'm just like that too. I tell myself it's ok, that if I had to pick one I'd get bored. Variety is the spice of life...

The passion of starting
What never gets done.
Is not all that different
From things never begun.

For one has a label
And the other has none.
They call it a procrastinator
But neither gets done.

Cute write. And flowed quite smooth. I did enjoy.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Oh Linda, recognition of the problem is half the battle, won. You are so good at capturing these little moments of truth which make up life. You are a number one poetress, and I value you greatly! (and so does my grandson as we he and haw and moo and caw our way through one of your poems) I enjoy your poetry tremendously!

Hugs to you,
Pat

Earth Angel,
at one time in my life I had 47 unfinished projects, I have whittled that down somewhat but I still begin more than I can finish. I could relate to this and can only say you'll always be number one in my books.

Marti ~

Well, I must admit that I actually do have quite an assortment of unfinished poems, songs, paintings, books etc.  When the mood strikes me, I go in with renewed vigor and a fresh perspective and finish them off better than if I had pushed on when I had been running out of steam or enthusiasm for a project.

Since writing this poem, I have learned not to be so hard on myself or feel so guilty.
Things well get done when they are supposed to be done--in my own good time--not theirs! haha

You "cackled" me up with your "hee and haw, and moo and caw"! haha

It would have been a real "hoot" to have watched you and your grandson animatedly reading my poem "A World of Sound". Thank you for the extra big smile you just put on my face!

Kethry ~

Good morning! Or is it? I haven't got a clue what time it is down under. Well, it is a good morning here and I'm wishing that your's will be (or was?) as well! hehe

--47 projects you say?!?--An impressive amount to have whittled down! I can relate with how you feel when you start new projects when the uncompleted ones are nagging you at the back of your mind!--But at least we're being productive and we do eventually get around to hopefully getting everything completed.

P.S. The invitation is still open for you to join me for Halloween! cackle cackle

I'm just the opposite.  I tend to be a perfectionist.  Yeah, I know, one of those. LOL

You could be describing my son here.

the gulls, still race along the shore,
the morning star, still kiss the dawn

Auguste ~

I am a bit of a perfectionist myself--so you can imagine how disconcerting it can be for me when I have to leave a project because I've lost my enthusiasm for it. But I've learned to let go and go with the flow. That way, whatever I'm working on at the present time gets my full attention and energy. When that wanes, I go back into things that I had let go, with a renewed vigor!

The only time I feel pressure to complete something in a given time, is when I am working on a commissioned painting. As an artist yourself, I'm sure you know the feeling!

Thanx for your input!

It takes, does it not,
Two, to make the best of One?
To urge and be trusted
When the work is all done.

So gather a hand
and steady the brush
Paint a portrait of your dreams
for in Two:  you can trust.

Jeff ~

What a pleasant surprise to see you had written a poem for your reply!

--"Paint a portrait of your dreams"--words I will never forget!

Your comment about my poetry moving you, was very gratifying and moved me as well. The beauty of writing poetry is not only in the expressing of ourselves, it is for the appreciation of others to read what we have expressed. Thank you Jeff for you kind words.

It was wonderful doing a duet of words with you, and it would have been wonderful to have done a duet of music with you as well.

~ May you continue to go through life with a song in your heart and rhythm in your hands and feet ~
