Across the border from Laredo, in a small cantina,
Worked a girl, I knew her well, my ebon haired Edwina,
A smile she had like a grand piano, her teeth gleemed black and white,
Long braided hair grew on her back, t'was quite a hairy sight,
She sang just as a meadowlark, globetrotter, not the bird,
Talked only in the Spanish tongue, in English, not a word,
It mattered not, for we both spoke, in the language of true love,
Si, Si, Edwina, gracias, my Spanish turtle dove.
We danced the night, the cha-cha-cha, as we drank tequila,
With the bottle dry, we ate the worm, and did Edwina squeala,
That was until that fateful night, I met Edwina's brother,
When he came looking for Edwina, and me he did discover,
In the arms of fair Edwina, he let out a roar,
The lights went out, and when I awoke, I was on the floor,
My head was in a pool of blood, my teeth were in a pile,
When I looked up there stood her brother, upon his face a smile,
As ugly as an elephant, as big as any rhino,
He ask me if I knew his name, I said elephino,
He said it's time for a gringo to die, but before you go,
My name is Senor Finklestein, I thought you'd like to know,
Then he reached down to pick me up, I saw the shine of glass,
With a bottle, Edwina hit him, he fell on his ask
Me why I up and ran, I cannot answer that,
I didn't wait to think it out, I thought it best to scat,
Across the border to Laredo, I ran from Finklestein,
Knowing that my fair Edwina, never would be mine,
I turned tail and ran away, Edwina left behind,
Fearing that no truer love, I would ever find,
Oh how I long, to once again, return to the small cantina,
And spend the night with my true love, my Spanish fly Edwina.
But by my cowardice, I never can, I've lost true love divine,
I've lost Edwina, my darling dear, my Edwina Finkelstein.

Tim, now this is quite a story. And you told it very well, I do say. It had a lot of rhyme. Thanks for sharing this poem.

ROTFLMBO...Sir...you've been listening to Michael Martin Murphy again, haven't you?  Thank you for my grand piano grin...I think I even cracked a new wrinkle over this one!
