He enjoys hurting me I believe this to be true I'm crying all the time I don't know what to do I try to be there for him But none of this matters He acts so ungrateful My thoughts of him are scattered From one day to the next I don't know what to think His attitude changes As fast as I blink From one minute to the next He can be thoughtful and kind Close my eyes and blink And he's [edited by moderator] with my mind He pays me no attention To the others he is glued It doesn't even faze him When he sees me nude He talks in a whisper To make sure I don't hear Knowing that this bothers me Knowing I'll shed a tear He tells me to "Be Quiet" He doesn't want to hear my voice He totally ignores me He gives me no choice Everything I tell him Goes in one ear and out the other He's not like this with everyone Just me and not another Through all this and more I remember all the good times we did share I can't help but to stick around I can't help but to care I don't understand Why he can't let his feelings show? Maybe he doesn't care at all? What do you think? Please let me know... can't speak to the motivation....just wonder why one would stay in such a situation that seems to be mental abuse... if it is that bad, pack you bags and get the hell out... it won't be easy but I'm telling you it beats what you describe. |

Stephanie, you ask "What do you think?"....well, It's according to whether you wrote this poem from experience or if it's just make believe. First of all, I'd like to say that you wrote a very good poem. It's very, very sad and you portrayed a very bad state of things. If you're really experiencing this, I personally think it's a form of abuse, too....just as bad as physical abuse. The only difference is that SOMETIMES the scars from physical abuse go away a whole lot faster than verbal and emotional abuse. Steph, I agree with Ethel what I think depends on whether this is pure poetry or painted reality. I'm guessing from the deleted profanity that it's real and in that case it is abuse and you need to make some hard decisions. Stay and continue being abused or find a way to leave, either way it is good to keep writing until you reach a solution. Not sure if you are talking about yourself or made this up, so I'll let everyone else Ann Landers you... but I know this: If it didn't faze him, even when I'm nude, I'd find me another dude! Though truly I am not much into 'dudes', anything would beat this jerk! Or, try single life awhile. Steph, I'll probably never understand the loyalty that losers can evoke. But healthy or normal it isn't. And ultimately the longer you stay the worse it gets for both of you. Your self-worth isn't in his possesion it's in yours. He simply is trying to deprive you of any. Exit stage left...post haste! Courage and peace as you deserve both.  If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |
