A Prayer

Lord, give me joy to mark these days
With apple pies and fall bouquets
Let laughter be the song they hear
From heart to hearts I love so dear

Lord, let me walk with head erect
Deliberate gait to every step
And let my deeds be pure and kind
Fulfilling to the heart and mind

Lord, please allow my eyes to see
The souls who suffer more than me
And let me soothe a troubled mind
With just a simple humble rhyme

Let me declare to all the rest
How very much my soul is blessed
That all will look in envy to
Contentment known to only few

Make this disease my coat of arms
In colors wrapped around my arms
A flag to wave, an honored crest
In dignity across my chest

Let others look upon my stance
The stature raised by circumstance
For only by fate’s stinging dart
Was I to open up my heart

Lord, let my days be those of love
Let little leaves float from above
Below the brilliant autumn skies
Let these be days of apple pies

...and cinnamon and healing herbs
let heart's truth be fully heard
let the scent of love regale
the wind as she sets full the sail...

It is amazing how such a simple prayer can be so eloquent; must have something to do with the humbleness of the poet.

I so enjoy your poetry. This poem is loving, soothing and written with such grace, it warms my heart and makes me smile.

Thank you so much for sharing your gift with us.

Warmly,
Pat

Elizabeth,
what grace is there in the breath of this poet? - sufficient unto the day, I think

You are an amazing lady and God has gifted you with a talent to write beautiful words.

Hugs to you, Marti

And let me soothe a troubled mind
With just a simple humble rhyme

There's nothing simple or humble about any words from your pen. *S* They are gems which sparkle or glow gently... but always, always speak truth. *S*
And as one you've soothed so many times... let me say at least part of your prayer has been answered... and I'm grateful. *S*
This is beautiful, Elizabeth!
