When I shall die, don’t waste your tears,
but let them water droughted earth.
The years weigh heavy on my brow.
It seems, they have since day of birth.

On pages I spill mournful pain.
It is a way to overcome,
hold thoughts at bay, lest they reveal,
parts of me dead and others, numb.

We are what we make of ourselves.
It is our choice if we’re to crawl,
if we’re to bleed our lives away,
or rise from knees, answer its call.

Our fears are only parasites,
that feed on peace and leave us weak.
They do not want our lives to grow,
but want us all to remain meek.

I will not bleed and will not crawl.
The parasites, I’ll send to death.
I’ll live my life and fill the years,
thank God, for giving me the breath.

Michael, this is very good thoughts. You know what?!? I just posted a poem that I had written a while back when I was feeling some doubts and fears. I had put off posting it....now I wish I hadn't. I get in those moods of self-pity every now and then, and I purely hate them. I believe the way you said in this poem. Thanks for sharing.
Love To All,

Michael,
Strange the experiences that life uses to give us wisdom. Good write sir.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

"Our fears are only parasites,

Fear indeed can be crippling...your strength is in knowing this.

A strong poem, my friend...well done!

The down times make the up times that much sweeter.

PIP is a wonderful venue for all of us to share our observations, our views, our lives, our ups, our downs...

Your closing stanza shows that your positive attitude will serve you well in life!

Oh Mike, "the breath", huh, and oh so very, very important to remember that for some of us. Actually, for all of us.  Well, I would cry and not one tear would ever be wasted, for they would be to 'honor' you.

I so appreciate this poem and your willingness to be vulnerable (assuming you are talking about yourself) to let us see determination, bravery, and upmost honesty. And, to give others of us some flat-out gumption of our own, knowing if someone else can make something of themselves after coming out of hell, so can we.  Self-pity is out of the question, as is groveling,
according to your poem, and you are  right. This is a very inspiring poem and I am glad you wrote it and pleased God blessed me by putting me in the right place at the right time to get to read it. Thank you ever so much.

With Warm Regards,
Pat

(big hugggssssss) God Bless You, sweet friend, I know only part of all that you have been through and my heart goes out to what you had to endure but much more importently, I will be proud of you always as you have become a golden-hearted friend to us all and I know so many wonderful things yet rest ahead of you as He will always love you so much and if you can conquer that trial you can conquer any virus as He loves you so much! (sigh) You are blessed, sweet friend, we all love you so much, thank you for being YOU. You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Michael, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Michael - dear poet, these are words of inner strength from one of the most fearless persons I know.....and we have never even met. Bless you. Chris

Ethel,
I'll be having a look for your poem just as soon as I'm finished replying here and thank you for bringing it to my attention.  It's only natural for us to feel a little sorry for ourselves at times, but to remain there is self-defeating, destroys the quality of our lives and keeps us treading water, instead of swimming.  Thank you!

Vandana,
Thank you for stopping by to read.

Sy,
Thank you, it's nice to see one of your replies here.

Larry,
No pun intended, by life really is a growing, learning process and it's often though adversity that wisdom is born.  Thank you!

Martie,
Thank you, sweetie!  Yes, it certainly can be crippling.  I've seen it all too often in the lives of friends and find it very sad.

Linda,
My attitude wasn't always a positive one, if anything, it's one I had to learn over the years, but yes, it's served me well.  Thank you!

White Rose,
Thank you, so glad you could find time for a visit. *S*

Pat,
Yes, this poem is about myself.  Do I feel sorry for those that feel sorry for themselves?  Absolutely!  I'm not an uncaring person, but one that cares enough to want to see everyone succeed, grow, challenge life and find happiness.  I believe for most of us that's a real possibility, if we'll only wake up to realize it.  Thanks for the very nice words.

Noah,
With your attitude you'll do very well in life.  God bless you, my friend...and thank you, sincerely.

Nancy,
You're very sweet, thank you, my friend. *hugs*

RSWells,
No, it's not easy, but it's what we must do in order to have a full life and one day realize our true potential.  Thank you, sir.

Chris,
So many of us allow fear to rule our lives and in the process, steal our peace.  I'm not fearless, only stubborn. LOL  Thank you, kindly, for your sweet words.

the earth will turn on as before,

the morning star, still kiss the dawn

Well written, Michael!  I saw this on Today's Topics and felt the need to open it up and have a read.

I very much like the path that you took with the poem, first discussing yourself personally and then drawing it into a global application.  You closed on a strong, more personal note, as well... which I felt brought the poem full-circle in a way.

The last stanza made me nervous though... ...

Well done, Mr Auguste.  I'm glad I finally got the chance to read your work.
