Fine lace in a room full of shadow
Slightly yellowed from light from the window
From when the curtains were kept open
Letting the morning sun shine in.
The heavy curtain stays pulled shut these days
Because sitting rooms have become passé,
No longer do people come and sit a spell
With news of friends and stories to tell,
But the fine lace is on the table still
Because it’s owner hopes they will.

Gloom

Yes Gloom, gone are the days of having the leisure time to just chat.  I always did like the look of lace though.  Well written.

Gloom

The art of sitting may be passe', but lace and place still grace your words and capture the memory.  Enjoyed this!

Good afternoon Professor ~

I was flooded with remembrances and a feeling of nostalgia as I read your poem. I thought of my grandparent's grand home that was so full of life and social gatherings such as Sunday afternoon teas. In later years, the joy in their home faded as did the lace that had graced it.

Poems, such as this that you write, move me deeply.

I'm keeping this one.  It reminds me much of a house where I once lived.  Nicely penned, sir.

The stars will shine when I am gone,
the earth will turn on as before,
the gulls, still race along the shore,
the morning star, still kiss the dawn

almost all my rooms have lace curtains or sheer
I think they welcome in the light of day and  allow the moon to enter at night...
and I love sitting and chatting with friends..do it often...but  still not enough
I enjoyed this  poem G

Gloom - I love this!! Makes one want to get out the "good china" and make a pot of tea. Ginger snap cookies might be nice too. lol. Well done. Chris
