A TRIBUTE TO MY DAD
by Ethel (written on 6/6/85)

Sometimes we seem to forget to say
"thank you" to our Dad
Especially when we have grown up and our
own problems we have had

But I'd like to say as best I can in these
few verses I write
That I thank God for all the times, for our
famiy, Dad used courage and might

And I thank You, God, for all the many times he
worked when, I'm sure. he wasn't able
So we could have a good place to sleep, good
clothes and plenty of food on the table

And, God, I used to think he was being too strict
when I had to be home in such a hurry
But now I know if he hadn't had such love, he
would never have bothered to worry

So I thank you, God, for my Dad, and help me
always to show it
So that even though I forget to say "I love you",
he will always know it

Ethel,
Can you tell I love family? This is wonderful! Such a fine daughter he raised too. Excellent write. Keep it up.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Ethel, a very nice tribute to your dad and I'm sure he realized just how much you do love him, even if you do forget to voice it as often as you'd like.

The stars will shine when I am gone,
the earth will turn on as before,
the gulls, still race along the shore,
the morning star, still kiss the dawn

A sweet tribute. I have a few around here written for my Dad also, and I must be a complete Daddy's girl too. I enjoyed this. It made me smile.

Jennifer, thanks for yor reply. I'll have to look for your poems to your Dad. My Mom says that I have lots of ways like my Daddy...he says I'm just like her. They've been married for 63 years, so they must like each other too!?! HeeHee! Thank you for your reply.

You are very lucky to still have your dad around to tell him.  I hope you have shown him this poem that tells how much you love him.  He will treasure it, I'm sure!

Marti, thanks so much for your reply. He does like the poem. It's in a frame on the wall right beside the one I did for my Mother in 1985. Thanks.

Thank you, sweet Sue. My Dad does like the poem very much. I need to write both my parents more poetry. Much has happened since I wrote these two back in 1985. I am so blessed to still have both my parents. Thanks.

Love To All,
Ethel
