Daddy Said Yes!
By Larry Chadwick

BEFORE

Her mother was afraid,
Just wouldn’t let it be done.
She came to visit her dad,
It was time to have some fun.

First we began a search,
A beautician we needed to find.
Her hair was way too long,
She wanted it shorter like mine.

DURING

An expert he had to be,
For price was no object.
Her great fear required,
His skills to be perfect.

And though she shed some tears,
Her determination gave her the strength.
She sat down in his chair,
And let him change the length.

DURING

And when the cut was complete,
She was as gorgeous as a model.
So off to the bikini shop,
There was no time to dawdle.

At sixteen it was no challenge,
Everything seemed to look good.
The purchase was quickly made,
Off to the beach because we could.

AFTER

Now it wasn’t easy being a dad,
To a beautiful girl like her.
But it was well worth the risk,
Effort well spent for sure.

When a young woman goes from long hair, to short hair, it's a rite, a passage.  It tells the world their hands are busy with responsibility and duty, that they are helping others.

Thank you for this, Larry.  Your daughter is very proud.

Larry, a heartfelt rendition of bonding between father and daughter...and what happened when she returned to Mom? Yegads, you two were brave!

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Ah, Larry ... my guess is ... it would have been hard to say "no" to such a beautiful girl. Wonderful pictures, and heartwarmingly told.

Best wishes,

Larry, this is beautiful....the connection between daughter and Dad....the thoughts....the pictures....the  daughter....and the poem... I loved it. My hair is still long in back, though I did cut the bangs and the top and sides a few years ago. It is a lot easier to take care of. It was a hard descision for me, though, to cut ANY  of it. I don't know if any of you understand, but it was a religious thing back then. Thanks for sharing. Okay, I'll hush with my big mouth (for now, anyway...HeHee!!)

Love To All,
Ethel

These poems you write on your family are so special. Thank you for opening up your life and your home and inviting us in.

Among all the other hats you wear, you are also the Chadwick family archivist and historian!

BTW Your daughter is as pretty as a picture!

Marti,
Well...and you are a very kind woman. Thank you for those words that always mean so much to em.

Virginia,
Well...at least we had the whole summer. As I recall she grew her hair out again for mom. But always I thought her most gorgeous with it short. And then she grew it long to donate. Which we did after the funeral. So I must confess she was beautiful to the end.

M,
And compliments from a great lady. Thank you.

Kit,
I refuse to confess...oh, all right. Sheesh, I get no breaks with you.
Thank you sweet poetess.

Sy(Octagenarian plus one),
I'm so glad. And thank you.

Ethel,
Back then? How long ago was that? Must have been before my time! But just the same, it was a delightful experience to share. With her and with you. Thanks.

Donna,
Thank you so much for your tenderness. It is appreciated.

Jenn,
Well mam, it was scary! She cried and even trembled a little. But the beautician was the one for the job. He was awesome and it turned out to be such fun. And thank you.

WR,
Oh thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed. This is the first time that I've done the pics completely alone. I'll shut up now. Thanks.

Cher,
She always did! What a joy she was. I miss her so, but still get to share. I'm thrilled you enjoyed this. Thanks.

Toe,
Hey now...OH, (sorry) thanks Toe! Yup she was. And bless you for noticing.

Martie,
Thank you so much Martie for reading this. Your support has meant so much.

SuperDave,
I know you know. But how much it means to me coming from you. Peace to you and please share my deep concern of Lyra's plight with her. You guys are so special. Thanks.

ps,
You, dear friend, have an incredible way with words. Such support as yours has so much meaning and strength in it. I wish there was a way I could convey to how much it means to me. Suffice to say that based on my experience you understand better than you think you do. Thanks.

Nancy Lee,
I am blessed to have such a privilege. Thank YOU. Always.
