~* Seagull Stew *~

Sure, I saw the sign while eating there
but I felt so sorry for a one-legged bird.
I wanted to throw him some little crumbs,
and thought the rules by the ocean absurd!

I think he saw the sympathy on my face,
seems my thoughts that crazy bird heard.
That seagull flew over to the garbage can,
and began lifting the lid ~ I said, “My word!”

The next thing I knew he had lifted the lid,
As only those brave scavengers would dare.
He pulled everything good out of the can,
and soon the deck held a feast quite fair!

He had created what I call "Seagull Stew"
he mixed up the food with his bill and feet,
then he seemed to call out loud and clear,
“Hey come on, I found us something to eat!”

The birds came squawking from all around
as if appearing from out of “thin air”.
I was laughing so hard at this scene,
and simply forgot other people were there.

Well soon the cleanup man came along,
and cursed at the darn birds on his right,
I swear I heard that seagull laughing,
As he was picking out dinner for tonight.

"Seagull Stew"---When I saw the title, I thought to myself, I love seagulls and I love stews---but not together!

So with trepidation I peaked in, and what a pleasant surprise you had in store for me and the other readers!

P.S. You should show this poem to the seagull so that he could know how famous you have made him!

This was too funny, the cans actually have lids that are hard for humans to get off and you put your garbage down a hole, well...this bird came along and I quickly got out my camera (which I go no where without) and sure enough, off with the lid, and he literally began heaving all the food from inside the can all over the place.  I thought this was hilarious - read the can! Talk about rebellion!  Thanks everyone.  Nan - you will remember this very spot - it is where we had lunch at the Quay one day

This was so funny, Sharon!     I often net shrimp and fish for the seagulls here and enjoy watching them fight over it.

The stars will shine when I am gone,
the earth will turn on as before,
the gulls, still race along the shore,
the morning star, still kiss the dawn

Sharon,
Too darn cute. Timing is everything! Right place write time.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Sharon, Your timing was perfect for this picture. Seagulls are very strong and ingenious when it comes to eating. I've seen them take clams into the air and drop them onto rocks below in order to eat them. Tricky creatures!

I enjoyed this and had a good giggle. Thank you...Hugs, Marti

I carry that camera everywhere!  You just never know when there will be a "Kodak moment", and I'm so glad you all enjoyed what I wrote around that picture, he sure was obsessed with getting all that garbage out of there it truly was hilarious.
