~Face In A Bag~

I walked into the store with my old face
wrinkles and crinkles were everywhere
beneath my eyes, all over my cheeks
even on my forehead, beneath my hair

a Nieman-Marcus cosmetologist
stood at her make-over station
she gently cleansed and moisturized
carefully avoiding irritation

applying creme, foundation and blush
in brighter shades of makeup
she took ten years off my old look
giving my tired face a wake-up

though, I may be the same old me
I have a thoroughly modern face
smoothed and brightened and lightened
this grandma's eyes now glow with grace

from Nieman-Marcus with it's upscale pricetag
my brand new face, came home in a bag
~

(kiss on cheek) This is precious, sweet friend, I love it, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lyra, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Lyra,
ROTFLMBO I just remembered as a kid taking grocery bags and cutting out eyes and nose and mouth and putting our face in the bag. But I see what you mean now. Cute write. Silly me, I thought it was a Halloween poem.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Lyra, this is a cute poem. I believe it is what is in a person heart that counts, not how they look. And, you my dear friend, have a very kind and loving heart.

Nothing like a pick-me-up! No matter what form it may come in!---I see yours came in a bag! he he

I know they say that beauty comes from the inside, and that is very true BUT it is so much fun trying to get the outside to match the inside!  Even if it takes "Three bags full"! ---Now, you must excuse me--I have to go unload all those bags from the car---then I'll attempt to remove those bags from under my eyes from reading so much poetry! hehe

Luvya Lyra!

hehehe, cute, I was hoping it was a cosmetic bag, so is the pic up there the after? It looks wrinkle free to me!

I LOVE THIS! Sign me up I'm on my way to 'Needless Markup' this afternoon!

All that face probably cost a fortune, but honey it's cheeper and less painful than a surgical face lift!

I am saving this forever and sending it to all my friends!  Fabulous, just fabulous!!

Hugs, Marti

Are you sure, my friend that these aren't faces ON a bag?  I was sure, downright positive, that you were going to make mention of the pansy faces....

Hugs to you for this one!

This explains the expression..."I have to put my face on"...that I've heard women say...and it also explains the purse...a place to keep the spare!!!

Thank goodness no one has been able to figure out a way to makeover the human heart yet, for that would be a shame, as you've one of the loveliest ones I've seen.     Much enjoyed, Lyra!  *hugs* my friend.

So this is your secret weapon, how you always face the day with a smile!
Now you put a smile on my face, and I don't even own any makeup.

Chippymunk - I love this!! I have a flowered bag with my face in it. At least now that the cool, fall weather is here, I don't have to worry about my face melting off...lol. Enjoyed this. hugs, Chris

Lyra, this is so cute. But, from the looks of that smile on your picture, I'll bet most of those are "smile" wrinkles...HeeHee! I've got a lot of those, too.....we'll call them that, anyway. Thanks for sharing this sweet poem with us.

Lyra,
I too thought you were getting ready for halloween, how wrong can you be. Now for me a plain brown paper bag would do a better job of making me beautiful. (It's a good thing I am beautiful on the inside)

Thanks so much, Dawn... I'm glad to have given you some chuckles

Martie...  That is so sweet of you to say, but my new face looks pretty much the same as my old face except just a little brighter and less shadowy

Bill... A chipmunkologist?   Whats that?  Thanks for your reply

Julie... thanks so much for enjoying my poem

Noah... What a very sweet thing to say.  I know that cosmetics don't really change a woman, but they sure make her feel pretty once in a while... even a chipmunk woman

Paul... thanks so much for your kind words

Larry... A Halloween poem?  Maybe I will dress up as a chipmunk this year

Sue... You are right, but a little fun with cosmetics doesn't hurt, every once in a while

Nan... thanks for those kind and complimentary words, but my face still looks pretty much the same, it just feels better

Linda... thanks for making me laugh,  It was so much fun to try to make this old bag look younger

Virginia... thanks so much for your reply...Do you remember one of the Beatles songs about Elinor Rigby who kept her face in a jar by the door?

Marti... I love Needless Markup,  they have the best cosmetologists, and they are, indeed... much  cheaper than a face lift

Nancy... thanks so much, but there are some wrinkles there as well as sun spots and other age related anomalies... thats why I wear makeup

Karilea... After I read your reply, I went back and looked at the picture and realized that it was the perfect picture for this poem because those pansies indeed, do have faces... but I've never seen a pansy with makeup.... although I have seen some with wrinkles, especially when they needed water

Scorpio... thanks so much... and yes, we do put our faces on.  Sometimes we will wear a 5 minute face for the supermarket, but other times a 15 minute face for a formal occasion

Michael... They actually can make over the human heart... but only if it has a medical problem... and they don't do that at Nieman Marcus

Electra... Thanks so much... at least you aren't faceless to me.  I think you have a pretty one

Kacy... No Makeup!!!!  You must still be a "hippy chick"!  That worked for me until I turned 40 and then there was lots of stuff that needed to be covered...  You are a brave woman

Chris... thanks so much,  my face also melts in the hot summer heat

Maureen... thanks so much for those very kind words... but I know that the makeup is needed

Ethel... They probably are smile wrinkles and they also give a face character... but, as I've gotten older, I've gotten these nasty brown spots which is really why I use makeup

Donna... I have just recently learned to carry a spare lipstick with me, so that after eating I don't look like a ghost

John... Thanks so much for the male point of view

Keth... Now that I've met you in person, I know that you are totally wrong about that.
You are very beautiful on the outside!
