You heard something? Or...was it just in your mind? A dream.....or perhaps nothing at all... And then.... Again, that sound... Ominous yet barely perceptible... Like a whisper across a still lake. Floating in the darkness, into... your thoughts.. Suddenly, shattering the calm, a twig snaps... Or....did it? Turn around...your mind tells you frantically.. But, you can’t, your legs won’t move. Your heart, the beat clouding your ears as you strain to listen... Sweat beads upon your brow even as your breath frosts the air. A chill comes over you... Courage! Shouting in your mind’s ear.. Courage! Quickly, you turn..... Stumbling, falling... Rolling over.... Nothing is there... Or is there? |
