From a Maui Balcony

Warm wind fills the palm tree
her graceful fingers curve across dusky rose
sipped and softened until like a feather

oh my hair blows across his cheek
and his eyes are reflected scarlet pools
saying sudden rain would catch
and melt into the curve that breathes
he says this with his eyes

his whim to take the sky and me
into the sanctuary of his tenderest touch
I can see this as he turns

to sun in repose against the birth of island
slowly sinking into mauve
and the moon is a twist of lime
a twink of first star a gift like jewel
on bended knee with sweet breath
hands in balcony touched and touching

from a Maui balcony

Martie,

My sister and her new husband went to Hawaii for their honeymoon this past summer. Sounds like you had just as breathtaking a time as they did. Glad you enjoyed your vacation.

Lovely images, very lovely. Could make on envious of the opportunity to be in Maui, especially on this 35 degree morning.

The "oh" in the 2nd stanza doesn't feel right to me, it's like it would be better without it or to include "my, how" with it, i.e. oh, my, how my hair blows...

Just my observation, for what it's worth.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Martie, this is so pretty.  You should've put one of your photos with the poem.   *hugs*

You know Martie, I've gotten a recommendation to read your work from two completely different, but equally reliable sources... and now I can see why.

Your ability to describe and beautify the physical world is definitely what I draw from this poem... everything in this piece is so exquisite... I felt the emotions even when you weren't directly stating them, simply by how you viewed your surroundings.  I imagine you also write terrific haiku poetry, or would, if you haven't.  I'll have to peek over your post history to see for myself.

Wonderful writing, Martie.  I'm glad I let my curiousity lead me to your work.

You've caught my eye.
