As dark does take the light away
and turns the shadows into mist.
A sound is heard in windy sway
that comes to ear as though one hissed.

So hideous and alarming
this utterance from deepest bowel.
From deep in dark came this calling
among the trees in darkness prowl.

Tis time, I know for them to call
and drag the chains on wooden floors.
I sit and wait for this evil pall
that rasps the wood of deadbolt doors.

A knock, a howl, a screech and cry,
alarming sounds that churn the gut.
What horrid sight will meet the eye
if creaks foretell a door once shut?

My heart now pounds and cannot stand
to see what might come in the night.
A clink of bones, a shriveled hand
beyond the door in waning light.

Oh Lord of heart and peaceful soul
do come and keep me safe from harm.
I wish to not hear midnight toll
of bells that sound the ghoul’s alarm.

As steps do fall and feet do drag
upon the porch beyond the glow,
my spirit quakes and courage sags
from that I do not see or know.

Twas ‘pon the strike of bells in chime
to tell the hour of midnight’s here.
When from the stairs a flowing slime
did bring then forth my quaking fear.

I ran as though a scalded dog
and crashed the door, then jumped the wall.
As eyes did watch in reddish sheen
I ran into the waiting fog......

To be continued......

I tell you what, the poets of PiP are just determined to scare me silly. Well I was already silly, but gee willickers, I've no man around right now, and it gets a bit scarey here ya know.

Can't wait for more Barry!

Barry, very creepy, DO continue.

The stars will shine when I am gone,
the earth will turn on as before,
the gulls, still race along the shore,
the morning star, still kiss the dawn

Cool.

What is life without poetry and adventure?
"Little sister" is just another way of saying "Guardian Angel"!
