This was a challenge at another poetry forum. I've not been able to get into it for the past hour, at least. Thought I'd go ahead and post it here. The challenge was to write to the theme that I've used as my title.

October’s Rhapsody

harvest’s scents rise
upon the breeze's melody
raindrops play the cymbals
upon rooftops

rushing rivulets
strum rocks and reeds
as they speed
to streams and rivers

geese call
from the heavens
wild notes that splay
across the firmament

leaves trickle
color tones
as upon a harpist's fingers
filtering lightness
and folly
drifting down, cascading
to the ground

bringing an essence
of serenity
to the scene of autumn’s
move toward the rest
that winter brings

solemnity satiates

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Virginia, this is simply beautiful. Beautiful colors were painted in my mind's eye and it also seemed I could hear the music you wrote about. I enjoy your work very much. Thanks for sharing with us here at this poetry forum. Maybe one day I'll get good enough to visit the other forums, too. I don't think I'd enjoy it any more than visiting with all my "family of friends" at this one, though. Thanks again.
Love To All,
Ethel

Thank you for this lyrical autumnal rhapsody! It brings with it an "essence of serenity" and a very satiating solemnity.
