While cruising around making time pass,
In my custom stretch limousine,
I saw ‘Deer and Toerag eating grass,
With faces of matching green.

I ordered my driver to stop the car,
I felt compelled to investigate,
The road my friends had taken thus far,
That led them to this sorry state.

"Why are you eating grass, my friends?
"Have you truly sunk this low?"
"We're hungry, sir, please take us in,
We've nowhere else to go."

"We don't have no money for food."
Said Toerag in his grammatical best.
In pity I told him that I understood,
The cause of his weak sunken chest.

"The same goes for me, I'm flat broke,"
Said our woefully sad Balladeer.
I could feel the hunger in the words he spoke,
I was lucky that I found them here.

"I'll take you both to my fine estate,
You'll both have your fill and more.
You'll dine in luxury within the gates
That my poetry can now afford."

"Oh Long John, I have done you wrong,"
Balladeer shamefully implored.
"I know, my friend, you did it from fear,
That my poetry was better than yours."

"Oh, Long John, you is truly a saint."
I blushed as Toe honored my name.
"You is gooder than me, and I ain't
A poet like you is," he proclaimed.

"I forgive you both for the things you've penned,
For the things I've read in each poem.
I've never forgotten that we're all friends,
That's why I invited you to my home."

"What kind of person would I be,
To not heed your mournful call?
You'll love my place, as you will see,
The grass is nearly one foot tall!"

Hey you silver-tongued sleuth - What's up with you?  You think you can just disappear for weeks on end and just come back here and pick up where you left off??... Huh??...

Well, you're right - You can... This is a great come back, I might add... Kisses & hugs, my sweet friend...

Sometimes I feel like a prodigal son, and then I'm made to feel like one even more when I come "home" to all of you wonderful people.  Except for 'Deer and Toe, of course whew, I almost let it slip that time

Ladies...LongJohn is not a well person....please continue to humor him as you have in your very kind replies...he's my much older brother, and I do love him, but we've always had to be gentle with him....

LongJohn? Longjohn? hmmmm....that name is vaguely familiar....you that sailor who shows up every once in a while and then scampers off with his tail between his legs? I thought so!!!

Welcome back, barnacle. We'll be easier on you this time so you stay around longer!

I think you just wanted to make them green with jealousy over this cute poem, Longjohn...
but instead, you made them green with chlorophyll

Ah, the sailor's back in port again... must be time for his yearly bath? LOL

Your kindness (as usual *G*) overwhelms me, scalawag... but not to worry... I'll be over to rescue those fine gentlemen ASAP... I may drive a jalopy, but I sure serve better eats! LOL

I enjoyed this, LJA... I know you can't help being strange, but please stop being such a stranger! LOL

Michael, I don't think I've met this third part of this  FINE  trio, but I am so glad to meet you. You have a good comeback, just as Mr. Toe and Mr. Deer do. Keep it up...PLEEEEASEEEEE!!  I love it!!. You all three write such good poetry, too. Quite a suprise, huh? Thanks for sharing with all of us.

Everything is well in my neck of the woods.  I took a long sabatical (hiatus, actually) because 'Deer and Toe were being ignored too much.  Now that I'm back, perhaps they'll have to improve their writing style.  I do enjoy their poetry very much - it makes me feel superior - lol.

I hope to compose more, if my muse permits.

BTW - For those of you who don't know me, 'Deer and Toerag are good friends who take pride in their vicious stabs at my tender sensitivities.  It's OK, don't be too hard on them, as they've both had a hard life overcoming their runt-of-the-litter starts.

I'm sitting here very hungry, but I think I'll go make lunch before you have a chance to offer me some of the grass on your lawn. I might eat it all and then there wouldn't be enough for Toe and Balladeer. LOL.
