Kalamazoo
Chipmunk Escapades
By Paul Wilson

They scurry back and forth more and more
Little cheeks full of nuts and things
With abandon precious nuts they store
Preparing for the winter and temps it brings

As days get shorter and trees lose leaves
Chipmunks getting ready for winters rest
Making their stash like little thieves
Hiding their bounty close to their nest

They climb and play within walnut trees
Chasing one another round and round
Amazing us with their expertise
As they scamper from tree to ground

Winter’s blanket coversground
Trees have now lost their leaves
No chipmunks to be found
Snow clinging to house eaves

Too cold out for man or beast
Looking out window for a sign
Chipmunks in warm nest with nuts do feast
Furry little creatures doing fine

Waking up from chipmunk dreams
They start to venture out
More and more each day it seems
We begin to jump and shout

Winter begins to lose it’s hold
Birds begin to sing their song
The coming of Spring…a site to behold
Chipmunk’s playing all day long

Lyra I hope you enjoy this

Paul, I will gladly lend you an arm so you can pat yourself on the back!

This is not only a very fine piece of p-o-e-t-r-y, it was written for the sweetest little chipmunk in the whole wide world!

Bravo to you!--and angel hugs to you both!

Paul, this is just so special for a little Kalamazoo chipmunk. I giggled when I read it and enjoyed it so much and I'm sure Lyra will love it.

Hugs, Marti

Thanks so much for writing a poem, Just for me, Paul...
It is so adorable and so well written and it makes me feel very special...

I haven't been here as much lately because I've been spending lots of time in Ann Arbor getting radiation treatments in the morning and physical therapy in the afternoon...
and then when we get home in the evening, we have everything else left to do...
Thank goodness for David because the radiation and the pain meds make me so tired that I just want to sleep all the time...
~ Great big thank you hugs from Kalamazoo

Paul,

I just knew Lyra would love this as she was reading it. I know I did. I'm just thankful that our little chipmunk "Lyra" doesn't go into hybernation all winter.

Thanks so much for all of the prayers, Paul...
And Dawn...  I don't usually hibernate in the winter, but I try to stay off the roads...
It gets very slippery here in Michigan...
we get lots of lake effect snow because we are directly downwind from Lake Michigan...
but I might be hibernating just a little bit for the next 3 weeks or so... just busy gathering acorns and radiation
~ loving thank you hugs

Bill...I do believe we both know the same Chipmunk. Maybe we should all get together and send her a big box of Chipmunk hugs to get her throught the Winter...Paul

Dawn~ So glad you enjoyed.
Come Spring time she will be doing fine
This little Chipmunk friend of yours and mine
