somebody's dungeon

I walked down to the lake
scissors in my hand
to gather some roses
for the bouquet I planned.

The wild rose recovered
it's blossoms heavy with dew
I thought it couldn't hurt
to cut just a few.

I stood back and admired
the color of each one
coming so close
to gathering some,

but each time I came near
scissors at the ready
something happened,
my hand wouldn't steady.

Here the giant stood
over time through the storms
who was I to steal
the flowers that adorned,

this beautiful giant
that stood by the shore
that graced the world
with it's flowers and more.

I had to walk away
from my lovely wild rose
I'll admire it's majesty
from my back windows.

It just seemed a crime
to take a single one
so I left it to continue
to flourish in the sun.

I like the sentiment in this poem, however, those roses are usually so fragrant I could not have resisted.

Warmly, Pat

I know the feeling! Every time I cut flowers from my garden, that thought has gone through my mind! I am especially partial to lilacs, no offence dear rose (I love roses too!) and when they are in bloom I love to have lilacs in every room in the house. I even wear lilac perfume, hang up my paintings of lilacs and put lilac linens on my bed! I immerse myself in them! I am so passionate about things I love!

This is a beautiful poem!

Some things are best admired from afar. Sounds like these flowers are one of them.

Anne, every time I see your name, I think of my favorite flowers...roses, of course. You describe the roses so well that I can almost smell them. Thank you for sharing.

A wonderful Poem...Paul

Just like grapes that make fine wine
Roses are more beautiful left on the vine.
