(I think I may have posted this at least one of those lifetimes ago

A Thousand Lifetimes

I have sailed a thousand journeys
I have lived a thousand dreams
I have held a thousand wishes
Planned a thousand foolish schemes

I have lost tenfold and more times
I have wandered paths alone
I have fought enormous battles
Slaying dragons on my own

I have spanned the highest reaches
I have gazed at far most stars
But in all my expectations
Never realized love like ours

I have knelt to God in reverence
I have humbled many men
Spent a lifetime simply searching
Traveling far and back again

I have borne the grief of many
I have lived the life of few
But I’ve never loved another
Quite the way that I love you

I have pondered all life’s mysteries
I have written words in rhyme
I have cursed the saints in heaven
Held the hand of love in mine

I have dug a thousand trenches
Buried pasts and let them lay
I’ve revealed a thousand secrets
In the words I’ve had to say

And if now my journeys ended
If I’ve lived all I can be
Let me sleep the sleep of ages
Content in knowing you loved me

~ Ruth

This appeals to me on so many levels. Your poetic expression is delightful and the  themes and inherent messages, are so identifiable to this reader!

Very well done!

Planed a thousand foolish schemes

Small nit here.... did you intend for this to be planned or planed as written?

Enjoyed the poem...and the thoughts it brought to mind when reading.... nice to see you posting again..

Good to see you girl, and I hope you take this as the compliment it was intended to be - I can see this on one of those pretty little plaques you buy in gift shops, yes I can!  Lovely.  And Ruth...I miss you

Ruth, in the few weeks I've been here, I don't think I've read any of your poetry. Oh, what this romantic has missed. I am   SOOOO  glad that you reposted this, because I might have never had the privilege of reading it if you hadn't. This is wonderful, Ruth. It's so beautiful, I don't know what to say, except for   THANK  YOU  for sharing this. I'm looking forward to reading much more of your work. Maybe you can repost some more??? Thank you.
