Different Can Be Good
By Larry Chadwick
I was only nine. And it took forever to figure it out. It served me well with teenage peer pressure.

It was really nothing new,
As I was utterly confused.
Mom asked me a question,
And she seemed to be amused.

How would you like your drink,
With or without cream?
I wanted it without,
It wasn’t as simple as it seemed.

“Oh Larry you’re just saying that,
So that you can be different!”
That is where the confusion lie,
My answer seemed insufficient.

It was never really quite my fault,
They raised me to think independently.
And thanks to that simple plan,
I stood by my choice persistently.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Yep, Larry, thinking for oneself is definitely an advantage that serves one well through those teen years and beyond!

There's a wonderful message here, Larry - Knowing our own minds can be a lifelong venture.  You seem to have mastered the art early on... Your parents have surely done well by you...

Good morning Larry! I'm with you on this one--and on everything else you write!

To dare to be different and blaze your own path is the brave route to travel in life.

Conformity is the easier, more traveled route---but no where near as exciting and adventurous!

You have put your own personal stamp in this life time from a very young age!

~ Kudos from a little drummer girl who has also marched to the beat of her own drum! ~

(big hugggssss) Oh Larry, this is so very true and I agree with you 100%, I feel that peer pressure can be so difficult for someone especially today and can change a person to be like everyone else, but I feel if we can remain loyal and faithful with our own decisions that is success and that is how I am approaching each day now just being happy for who I am! (sigh) This is wonderful wisdom, sweet friend, I love it, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Larry, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Larry, as always, I loved your work. But, I really love the thought behind this poem. I have spent a lot of my life trying to be what other people wanted me to be. One of the many reasons that I love my Gary so much is that he encourages me to be and to do exactly what ETHEL  wants. Lots of my family and friends think that I'm just being a rebel now, though. That unconditional love that Gary gives to me makes me happier than I've ever been before. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Love To All,
Ethel

Larry~
Ah yes...excellent message in these words.
I echo the others...your parents certainly did
right by you and I'm sure you have made them proud.
Thanks for sharing this.
