The Secret Garden

Sometimes we walk a predetermined path in wind-swept night
Head bowed to watch our darkened footsteps carefully
When the eye will catch a glimpse of autumn moon's reflected light
And be lifted upward toward a vast and glimmering sea

A spectacle long forgotten in our mind
We marvel at the new discovered beauty long concealed
As though the night sky had been hidden from us purposely
This secret garden of heavenly bodies is unexpectedly revealed

Unable to withdraw our eyes from splendor that we see
We linger in one spot some precious moments more
And our heart is overcome with unforseen tranquility
And our mind relieved of all the the hardship it has borne

It saddens us to realize this grand and glorious field
Was there to soothe and calm the restless spirit all along
So distracted were we by our daily labor and discord
We forgot to raise our vision upward toward the lighted throng

How can a simple upward glance create such quiet peace within?
How can a thousand distant stars warm our hearts with subtle glow?
Will we again neglect the unremembered splendor in the sky
Or customarily allow the little stars to touch our
soul?

Liz ... this is an excellent reminder to stop, look up, and pause to enjoy the beauty around us. We need to enjoy life more, and appreciate all the splendors of life. Beautifully captured!

Thank you, dear poets. Your comments are so warming, and yes this does take me back also to those days when we could respond to every post, and so we remember most of the poems from back then.
Warm embrace

This was a garden for the soul,
and one I'll remember most.
especially walking on stars in the sky,
with Lizzie, my poetic host!

Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.

How poetically things turn, Liz.  You once watched the stars, and now you are a star.  It's lucky for you that you didn't watch Budweiser trucks, because that scalawag Toe would be chasing you still!  lol

This poem is really different from your other styles.

Liz, I love the way you wrote back then and also now. There are so many wonderful poets here, I never get to read   ALL   their works....no matter how hard I try.  Do you mean there was a time when ya'll could read  AND  post to all of them? Goodness!! That would be wonderful to be able to do!!!! I love the work of all of you. Anyway, I'm glad that someone requested that you repost this work. I'm glad that I didn't miss this work of yours.

With Love To All,
Ethel

Liz

To stop and see how sweet a minute can be and write it with such perfect sentiment is a special gift.  Thank you for sharing it.

inspiring thing to do...  Open 3?  Gosh,

Watching the stars on calm warm summer evening is one of life's more calming past times...I like to  be on a beach...moonless night... watch as the stars magically appear in the sky...

Liz? I owe you an apology for not crediting your title with inspiration for my own---"secret garden" did indeed inspire to remember that gift of shoes...and if ya like, I'll loan them to you so you can kick me in the butt properly!

As always, you amaze me with your almost medicinal properties of poetry.

Hugs, with my gratitude. and hopefully, your forgiveness for my thoughtlessness.
