~Southern Fried Chipmunk~

Palm trees grow and oaks are scarce
in this climate, warm and moist
no acorns can be found here
bridling a chipmunk's choice

Palmetto bugs are happy
the weather suits their fancy
these roaches with exotic names
live where life's less chancy

way down south in Florida
the sun beats down and temps are high
but in the searing tropics
a furry rodent can fry

so I'll stay cool in Michigan
near ponds and streams and creeks
I'll scamper through the forest greens
nuts and acorns filling my cheeks

neath sandy soil of nearby Great Lakes
my little burrow will flourish with grace
~

Well, you almost scared me off with that scarey title! I feared the worst! Glad to see you survived the heat! hehe

Delightful as usual!

Thanks so much Dawn... I'm glad you enjoyed

Kathy... It was much too hot in Florida, and this chipmunk really loves Michigan...
I have a feeling that This Diamond will love it too when she moves here...
Welcome new neighbor

Noah... thanks so much for your reply...
I think chipmunks can adapt to almost any climate... but this one loves Michigan the very best

Michael... thanks so much for the offer of your Georgia acorns... but the Michigan ones are much tastier

Linda... I'm so sorry I scared you, but that phrase "southern fried chipmunk" kept going through my head during the whole time we were in Florida, so I figured it had to become a poem

Ethel... thanks so much for your very sweet reply...

Lyra,
I guess the Colonel can relax! Such a shocking title. But I must concur. Michigan is far Superior to Florida. Fun write. Glad you made it home okay.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Cute poem, Lyra! I love Michigan in summer (no humidity) and I love Florida in winter (no freezing temps). Wish I could actually live in both places during these seasons. Spring and Fall are acceptable in Philadelphia, but that's about the extent of it!

Enjoyed this, Miss Munk....

ChipperMunk~

As we say in Florida ...
'Though you may not be able to stand the heat ...
our hospitality can't be beat !'

Give me lots of Florida Sunshine ...
the hotter, the better ...
We feed our ChipperMunks Orange Julius
so they don't get all sweatier !

Love ya' gal~

Chippymunk - no wonder you were so hot in Florida.....you forgot to take off your fur coat!! Oooops...but then you would be...umm..without clothing..he he he. I agree with you though, I can take the heat for our summer in Ontario, and then it is nice for the cool down of autumn. Enjoyed your write. Chris

Lyra,
there were chipmunks in Florida and they just about matched the palmettos for size. Good to see you home safe and writing again.

Hey, we've got chipmunks down here, too,
We've got raccoons and squirrels.
We have snow and early birds
And sun-tanned pretty girls.

The chipmunks down here dress in shorts
And bathe in suntan lotion.
Sometimes we see them surfing by
Way out in the ocean.

The chipmunks want to shed their fur
And sip exotic drinks.
The girls all want find old guys
Who'll buy them furs and minks!!

Larry... Thanks so much for the reply...
Didn't you hear about the Colonel's latest menu... It features "southern fried chipmunk"

Denise... thanks so much...  Yes, Michigan is wonderful in the summer, but it is also wonderful in the spring and fall and even in the winter if you don't have to drive in the snow

Karilea... Thanks very much, and you are very right about knowing where we belong, and thats true for everything in life... not just geographical location!

Sue... Sorry to shake you up... hmmm!  Maybe I should have made it "Shake and Bake Chipmunk" LOL

Marti... Thanks so much for your reply,  I am going to try to be here as much as possible, but the next 3 weeks are going to be difficult because I have to be in Ann Arbor every weekday morning for radiation and in the afternoons, I have physical therapy.  This weekend, we're planning to go up north to see the fall foliage... so I won't be here as much as usual for a while... but then I'll be back again... hopefully soon...

Nan... thanks so much.  I hadn't looked at it quite that way!  Imagine a chipmunk which feeds the squirrels????  Weird, but true

Kit... Thanks so much for your reply,  I'm glad you enjoyed the poem.  The whole time I was in Florida, that title kept running through my head because it was so hot... It was a poem begging to be written

Dulcinea... thanks so much, but I guess as far as chipmunks go... crispy and well done is probably better than rare, if you know what I mean!

Marge...Thanks so much for the cute verse.  This is one chipmunk who absolutely loves Orange Julius and the hospitality was wonderful too

Chris... Oooops!!!!  We can't have any naked chipmunks running around now, can we?

Keth...  I think you are right, The chipmunks and the Palmettos are about the same size...

Michael... I love your little poem...  I can just picture a chipmunk surfing in the ocean
